A noblewoman ignored by her husband didn’t have a long life. Either she withered away under constant torment, or she ended her own life in despair. If she endured, she was sent far away to a convent.

Kain knew this but didn’t control the servants at Rowen Castle.

Even if Clodelle wasn’t of Temnes blood, everyone in Rowen territory cursed Bermont.

It was natural she couldn’t win their favor.

It seemed unnecessary for him to intervene in such a natural order of things.

“But that doesn’t mean she should die.”

Kain murmured, sensing the contradiction.

So, by neglecting the harassment in the castle, he knew she would die young.

His effort to act as a husband in his own way was no excuse.

Clodelle’s indifferent voice quietly criticized him.

What’s the difference?

Whether she dies this way or that, it’s all the same.

Kain then realized why Clodelle had saved him.

While he was preoccupied with the triviality of speaking to his wife, she was on the brink of death.

Accustomed to adulation, he was upset that Clodelle had saved him ‘just like that,’ as if she would have saved any commoner.

Because it wasn’t specifically him, because he wasn’t special, that’s what bothered him.

But knowing she considered her death inevitable, no matter how or when, made him furious.
Anger, sadness, and desperation swirled within him. Kain punched the wall in frustration and feared for Clodelle. Even a slight groan or cough from her seemed to signal death’s scythe hovering dangerously close to her frail body.

“I’m going mad. Should have rebelled and waged a domain war instead,” he thought.

Especially the Bermont household; he had planned to execute them all with his own hands, ending the long-standing blood feud symbolically.

If things had gone his way.

He would have relished the victory, having struck down Clodelle and ultimately leaving only Temnes on the land after a lengthy struggle.

Now, he was tormented by a whirlwind of emotions, just knowing his inaction could lead to her death.

Rumors about Clodelle spread rapidly within Rowen Castle.

“I saw her coughing up a fist-sized blood clot.”

“Horrible.”

Her fainting and being carried back by Kain, along with several castle physicians being summoned, quickly became common knowledge.

“Is it contagious?”

“Herzol only affects Bermont people, right? Especially those living near the frozen lands around Bermont Castle.”

“Such wicked deeds, no wonder she’s cursed with the Ice Witch’s affliction.”

Curiosity and rumors mainly revolved around the Herzol disease she contracted.

“At least the dying one is a Bermont, thankfully.”

Everyone agreed. Although Kain’s attitude changed towards Clodelle and Hanna after the crocodile incident, the others remained the same.

“With a limping mistress, how can a proper ball be hosted? Only when a new mistress arrives will this place feel alive.”

Within their midst, Clodelle’s bedroom seemed like an isolated island.

The floor she stayed on was always sparsely populated.

Initially troubled by harassment, the servants lost interest when Clodelle seemed unfazed.

But as rumors of her contracting a deadly disease that ends only with the death of a whole village spread, everyone avoided her altogether.

Even if the disease didn’t spread in the south, who wouldn’t be afraid?

Hanna was infuriated upon discovering Clodelle’s meals left unattended at the staircase’s end.

“Crying bitterly, ‘I didn’t know…'”

Hanna sobbed.

“If anything happens to miss. Oh… I thought the Duke had some conscience, giving me money to bring her body back to Bermont.”

Grinding her teeth in rage, Hanna vowed revenge.

“I’ll kill the Duke.”

“Hanna.”

“No. I’ll kill Lady Irena. The Duke must lose what he cherishes most.”

Upon mentioning ‘what he cherishes most,’ Hanna broke down again.

“I only wanted to help the starving children.”

“Shut up! Clodelle! Every word you say infuriates me!”

Hanna eventually shattered the barrier of rank in her anger.

“How could you do this to me?”

Clodelle remained silent.

Hanna just said her words angered her.

Gently patting Hanna’s back, Clodelle suddenly heard a cold voice.

“Leave.”

With tears hanging in her eyes, Hanna looked at Kain, then reluctantly left the room.

After driving Hanna away, Kain silently gazed at Clodelle.

“I have a request.”

“A request?”

“You said you’d grant any wish.”

The day she collapsed.

Kain’s lips curled into a sneer.

“Do you think you’re in a position to make such a request?”

“Even if I die, please don’t cut off the food supply to Bermont territory.”

Male lead is a Love-Obsessed Merman

When he discovers she has gone, he risks everything to pursue her on land, enduring agonizing pain to transform his tail into human legs…

One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.

Synopsis

During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.

Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”

Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”

With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.

Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?

He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
