“Is it okay to do it?”

Under my neck, cooled by the night air, I felt the hot gaze of a man.

‘So much for showing something nice and ending up looking miserable.’

Cutting off the rest of my thought, in any case, Kain had tried to show her something good.

The first night spent amidst the onslaught of insults toward the House of Belmont.

And then the second night that followed.

Clodel had no choice.

Kain, the Duke of Temnes, had paid the bride price to the Duke of Belmont.

There was no option for her to refuse him. Such was the absolute power of a family head.

The right to decide Clodel’s well-being had merely shifted from the Duke of Belmont to Duke Kain of Temnes.

Yet he dared to ask such a question.

An impulsive question escaped my lips.

“If I say no, will you not do it?”

Kain didn’t respond but remained silent.

‘See. My thoughts don’t matter to him.’

Clodel felt bitter.

“Fine. If you don’t want it, I won’t force you.”

His unexpected answer surprised Clodel.

“But the longer you wait, the more you will have to bear.”

What seemed like consideration faded quickly.

“That’s a threat.”

“You misunderstand my honest words.”

Kain’s lips touched the fingers that still clutched her nightgown.

“Belmont always has a hard time listening at first.”

The man’s moist breath dotted her collarbone, nape, and behind the ear.

Belmont.

The name, heard while in the embrace of an enemy, sorrowfully settled in her ears. Clodel relaxed her shoulders and hands, as if they were her last defenses.

But her heart ached, torn between the disease eating away at her and the hurt feelings, indistinguishable.

Kain laid her on the bed and pressed the hands that clutched her nightgown to either side of the bed.

As Clodel was laid down as if she had opened her clothes herself, he slowly descended upon her.

When his hot lips touched her cool bare skin, Clodel flinched.

In a strange bedroom.

The only familiar thing to cling to was Kain.

The capital of the Kingdom of Oberon was the perfect environment for governance.

Centrally located in the kingdom, it boasted endlessly sprawling fertile plains and grain fields to the south.

The castle was situated on a gradually rising terrain, backed by sheer cliffs, forming a natural fortress.

The flowing Shen River below was the lifeline of the kingdom.

The castle, boasting national wealth with its white stone and gold-plated roofs, shone dazzlingly at night, as if the sun had descended to earth.

The ruler of the kingdom, the young and dignified King Valkyter of Oberon, was as impressive as the castle itself.

Noblewomen and princesses from neighboring countries pined for even a glance, breathlessly admiring the king’s beauty, with proposals of marriage trailing behind.

His abundant light lemon-blonde hair, pale skin, and deep, dark blue eyes set on either side of a high, straight nose were striking.

His lips, contrary to the seemingly pigment-lacking body due to his hair and skin, were well-colored.

The shirt he wore, its buttons undone, revealed a meticulously trained chest and abs, contrasting his soft and beautiful appearance.

King Valkyter was casually lounging on his bed, reading various letters that had flown in from abroad, when his bedroom door burst open without warning.

“Valkyter!”

A woman, who daringly called out the king’s name and burst into the room, bore a striking resemblance to him.

With her lush lemon-blonde hair messily trailing behind her and blue eyes, she charged at him as if to strike.

“How could you do this!”
Despite her barging into the room, Valkyter didn’t even turn his head, which seemed to infuriate Bianke even more as she stamped her foot.

“I asked you to arrange my marriage with Kain!”

“Bianke.”

Her face, which looked like she was about to burst into tears when she ran in, wilted at the mere mention of her name.

“You lack manners.”

“Brother.”

Bianke was Valkyter’s younger sister by two years.

As the only precious princess in the royal family, the only suitor who caught her eye in the entire kingdom was her cousin, Duke Kain of Temnes.

“You said you’d arrange an engagement when I returned from my trip, right? But Kain got married. And by a royal decree? Did you deceive me? You never intended to make me the Duchess, did you?”

“Did I ever say I would arrange your engagement with Kain?”

“That’s…”

Bianke bit her lower lip in frustration.

There had never been a promise to arrange an engagement with ‘Kain.’

Bianke had persistently pestered Valkyter to marry her off to Kain.

Naturally, when Valkyter said he would arrange an engagement after her trip, she assumed he meant with Kain.

“Then who were you planning to engage me to?”

Bianke trembled with a sense of betrayal as she screamed.

“Who in the kingdom could I marry? There’s no one to choose from! They’re all dead!”

The death of their mother, Queen Sylvia, who had ruled the kingdom, was sudden.

Valkyter, who succeeded to the throne, was only eighteen years old.

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Synopsis:

“I am not worthy of her… but I still want to be by her side, even if only as a loyal dog…”

Those were the painful whispers of Yue Guanyi – the proud Crown Prince of the Great Qi, who was torn between deep love and a guilty conscience. Despite holding the supreme power of the Imperial Guard, he still could not forget the dark past when he was sold into a brothel.

Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.

While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the  Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…
