Intelligent Hanna soon understood them, but she only shared the sweet cookies and candies with Clodel. Hanna thought she had to learn about the harsh realities of the world early due to her circumstances.

In the grand castle, Clodel, raised delicately as a ‘lady,’ was almost sacred to Hanna.

So, Clodel didn’t need to know these things, nor should she.

Despite also losing her parents on the same day, Clodel was meant to live a different life.

Hanna believed Clodel would marry a wonderful, noble husband – importantly, one who respected young maids – and live happily, showered with love.

But the groom turned out to be from Temnes!

Hanna knew the meaning of this marriage too well, especially since she grew up closely observing the Duke and Duchess of Bermont.

“That old raccoon, I should have killed him myself.”

Duke Bermont sold Clodel.

He traded his niece for just a month’s worth of food for the commoners.

When Hanna learned of this, her blood boiled with rage.
Despite knowing how important blind loyalty is to nobles as an employment criterion, Hanna ran into Duke Bermont’s office and screamed, “How could you do this?”

Duke Bermont, seemingly embarrassed, didn’t punish Hanna for her insolence. Instead, he avoided her gaze and suggested, “If you wish, you can go to Loen Castle with her.”

Grinding her teeth, Hanna left the Duke’s office with newfound determination to grow stronger, practicing with a heavy wooden stick at night.

Hanna understood better than Clodel what it was like for a woman to suffer abuse from her husband. Especially for a noblewoman, unlike a commoner like herself, where divorce was even more challenging due to familial ties and interests.

Even if the daughter, the subject of the contract, suffers terribly and dies, the marriage contract remains, trapping the woman, the primary victim, in the name of the husband’s family that led her to death.

In the regions of Temnes and Bermont, not just the black-haired and red-haired, but even the commoners fought and killed each other.

In such an environment, delicate Clodel wouldn’t last long. Therefore, Hanna felt it was her duty to protect Clodel.

However, since the marriage was decided, Clodel’s health worsened rapidly, with her appetite diminishing day by day. Hanna was agonized, watching her suffer.

The politically arranged marriage was hastily conducted within a month. By the wedding day, Clodel had become so frail that Hanna wondered if she would die of malnourishment before facing any abuse in Temnes.

The physician of Balmond Castle kept repeating that Clodel was healthy, and she herself claimed to be fine. Hanna could only guess the stress of the dreadful marriage to Temnes was affecting her.

Knowing the significance of not receiving a wedding night gift for a noblewoman, Hanna felt helpless in consoling her.

If only she had received something small, even a ring, she would have been so happy.

Hanna decided to raise her opinion of Kainan by five points.

Just as she entered the castle’s kitchen, the gossiping maids suddenly went silent.

A strange feeling came over her, but she ignored it, picking a tray and preparing to serve soup and bread.

“That Bermont has no pride.”

A mocking voice jeered.

“What?”

“That red-haired girl you serve, your ‘lady.’ She stole a decoration from her master’s clothes, didn’t she?”

“What are you talking about?”

The maids narrowed their eyes and sneered.

“This morning, she showed you a button decoration she claimed to have received from the duke, right?”

“But the tailor said it fell off the duke’s clothes.”

Crash!

Hanna dropped the tray, shattering the dishes.

Kainan was heading to Clodel’s room.

Tonight, there was a banquet where he would be with her. He was curious if everything was going well and thought about having a simple lunch together.

“Was it a foolish act?”

Even though she was a Bermont, Clodel didn’t make him feel uncomfortable or uneasy. His anger before the wedding had considerably subsided.

“Thievery!”

“What? You crazy thing! How dare you say such nonsense!”

A fight was breaking out in the corridor outside Clodel’s room, with maids pulling each other’s hair.

“In Bermont, they pamper you even if you have bad manners?”

Seeing Kainan suddenly appear, the servants widened their eyes in shock and stepped back.

Clodel stood at the door, and her maid, looking disheveled from the fight, was in front of her.

“Master! They’re talking nonsense!”

“What’s going on?”

One of the maids quickly reported.
“Well, she stole a button decoration from the Duke’s clothes and now she’s parading it around as if it’s a ring. She’s wearing it on her finger,” one of the maids explained.

Hearing this, a servant shouted loudly, “Our Duke is being made a fool of. As if he would give such a trifle as a gift!”

Clodel looked at him with an embarrassed expression.

But Kainan was just as perplexed.

He was the sovereign lord above them all.

The idea of the head of Temnes being ridiculed by his own servants was preposterous.

“I would never give such a thing as a gift,” he stated.

Male lead is a Love-Obsessed Merman

When he discovers she has gone, he risks everything to pursue her on land, enduring agonizing pain to transform his tail into human legs…

One-line summary: Male lead chases female lead. The male lead’s love is a bit sick, an invincible love brain.

Synopsis

During a voyage at sea, Jiang Yang accidentally captures a merman.

Servant: I heard that mermen are fierce and brutal.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman obediently rubbing her palm like a puppy: “You call this fierce and brutal?”

Servant: I heard that mermen have no human nature.

Jiang Yang looks at the merman with wet puppy eyes, obsessively calling her ‘A Yang’ like a childish infant: “You call this having no human nature?”

With great difficulty, she releases the merman back into the sea and returns to shore.

Who would have thought that in less than half a month, the merman, who should have been freely wandering in the South China Sea, would shed his scales, endure the pain of losing his tail, transform into human legs, and come ashore to find her?

He kneels at her feet, rubbing her palm, with merman tears rolling down: “A Yang, don’t abandon me.”
