I Ended Up Living Next Door to My Ex-Husband (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 1
…Damn wishing fountain.
It was my usual commute route, yet I’d never seen this fountain before.
‘When did this even appear? I didn’t see any construction.’
Feeling it might just be my mood, I tossed a 500-won coin and made a wish.
I wished my husband could finally become a decent man.
But when I got home…
“Honey! This—this is all a misunderstanding!”
“Yes, Jae-hee! Let me explain everything!”
This bastard was cuddling with my best friend in my bedroom?
“…What? A misunderstanding?”
“Yes, a misunderstanding! We—ah, no! I’ll explain everything! Okay? Just calm down for a second and let me—”
My husband frantically picked up his underwear and rushed toward me.
It had been exactly three days since he’d failed once again to debut as a film director.
I’d given him those luxury briefs as a gift, worried he’d lose heart.
‘…Yet here he was, stripping in front of my best friend.’
I’d believed in him as a husband, worked tirelessly without complaint, cooked meals, and even provided emotional support…
All that bone-crushing effort to support his dreams—and this was my reward.
A searing wave of rage rose from deep within my chest.
“So you wanted to become a film director, huh? Was the film you really wanted to make an erotic one?”
“Honey, I get that you’re mad, but why say it like that? You know I’m working hard to become a million-view director! Once I debut, I’ll make up for every time I’ve hurt you…”
“A million-view director? After five years of marriage, you haven’t even earned a million won—how dare you call yourself a ‘million-view’ director?”
Even now, he dared to mock me with empty promises.
I was sick to death of it.
“You rotten bastard! If you can’t make a great film like Parasite, at least don’t live like a parasite!”
As I hurled insults, my husband’s face twisted into something ugly.
“Hey! Are you done? Just because you earn a bit of money, you strut around like that? Once I hit it big with one blockbuster, I’ll pay back every penny in an instant! Why are you like this?”
“Yes, Jae-hee. I understand you’re upset, but isn’t it a bit too harsh to speak so cruelly to Brother Won-ho?”
Snap.
That was the sound of the last thread of my sanity snapping.
‘It really is too much to treat someone who films the animal kingdom like a human.’
Without hesitation, I ripped off my human facade and grabbed my husband by the hair.
“Ow! Hey! What are you doing, acting so uncivilized! Will you stop?”
“So you get to be ‘civilized’ while sleeping with my friend?”
“Ah, stop it! If you keep this up, we’re really getting divorced!”
“Divorced?”
A hollow laugh escaped me.
My rage gauge had already maxed out.
With one hand gripping his hair, I raised the other high into the air.
I would give him one final, unforgettable slap.
“Yes, let’s get divorced! You bastard!”
Whack—!
.
.
.
I slapped him so hard my body nearly spun around.
After exhaling a ragged breath, I opened my eyes.
‘…Am I hallucinating from the shock?’
First, I saw an ivory marble floor.
Then, luxurious medieval-style furniture and a fireplace.
Next came unfamiliar noble portraits lining the walls.
Trending
‘What… is all this?’
I must’ve fainted from anger.
This had to be a hallucination.
‘No! I need to wake up right now and slap that bitch’s face too!’
I was frantic.
Just as I shook my head to snap out of this dream,
a charming yet unfamiliar male voice reached my ears.
“I had no idea your hand could strike so well.”
His deep voice carried an almost oppressive weight.
Slowly, I turned toward the sound.
Jet-black hair slicked back with pomade, flawlessly sculpted features, broad shoulders,
a sharply tailored medieval nobleman’s black suit, and a silk handkerchief that surely cost a fortune—
an absurdly handsome man stood right before me.
He looked down at me with icy eyes, then smirked as he touched his own cheek.
“My tolerance for your misbehavior ends here.”
His cheek was already red and swollen—as if he’d just been slapped.
Who could have struck that face…?
‘…Wait. Just got slapped?’
Avoiding his piercing glare, I tried to assess the situation.
‘Is he saying I slapped his cheek? But that’s impossible—I clearly hit my cheating husband! And why am I even here?’
No matter how I thought about it, nothing made sense.
A whirlwind of question marks swirled in my mind.
Amid the confusion, I suddenly remembered something I’d forgotten.
‘Oh, right—I fainted.’
This must be a dream. Maybe God took pity on me and granted me a vision of an impossibly handsome man.
But how did He even know my taste—sending me a medieval duke-type man, no less?
‘I’m truly grateful, but I still have things to do in real life—like slapping that bitch’s face. Once my schedule’s clear tonight, please send this man back in my dreams.’
Normally, I’d pray never to wake from such a dream—but not now.
After all, I’d just witnessed my husband naked in bed with my best friend.
Reigniting my determination, I greeted the man.
“I’m busy right now, so I’ll take my leave. See you again tonight.”
The man stared at me as if I’d lost my mind.
“What’s with that uncharacteristic tone of yours?”
Even in my dream, he stayed perfectly in character.
How admirable. But right now, I was far too busy.
“Don’t talk. I need to get back to reality.”
At my firm declaration, his expression twisted again.
Ignoring him, I pinched both my cheeks hard, desperate to wake up.
Squeeze!
“Ugh…? Aaah!”
A scream burst from my lips.
I clutched my numb cheeks and blinked slowly with wide eyes.
It hurt—badly.
Strange…? If this was a dream, why did it hurt so much?
I’d pinched so hard that even a light brush of my fingers stung.
Stunned by the vivid pain,
I heard a low sigh.
“What’s your strategy this time? Acting insane because you can’t handle it? Or trying to provoke my sympathy?”
He slightly narrowed his eyes, rubbing his eyebrows as if weary.
His thick brows passed between his fingers.

I stared at them blankly—then realized something odd.
‘…I can see every single hair. Are dreams really this vivid?’
Carefully, I studied him again.
He was undeniably, breathtakingly handsome—but also undeniably alive.
His slow-blinking lashes and vivid blue eyes felt startlingly real.
‘Could it be… this isn’t a dream?’
I needed certainty.
Cautiously, I extended my index finger and lightly poked his abdomen.
His abs were exactly as rock-hard as I’d imagined.
And more importantly… they were ‘real.’
‘This isn’t a dream—it’s reality…?’
Just as I slowly blinked in dawning realization,
his large hand swiftly caught my wrist.
“I believe I told you not to touch me without permission.”
His gaze was colder than before.
“Was slapping my cheek not enough for you?”
His voice dripped with glacial menace.
For a moment, I froze under his intensity.
Then, I forced myself to calmly piece things together.
‘He thinks I slapped his cheek. And this place—wherever it is—feels real.’
To get out of this situation, calming him down was the top priority.
After all, if I were him, I wouldn’t let someone who randomly slapped me go unpunished.
First… I should apologize.
“Well, I don’t know how this happened… but I’m truly sorry for slapping your cheek upon our first meeting. You’re perfectly justified in being angry, sir.”
“…First meeting? Sir?”
“No, but—this is absurd! Just moments ago, that ‘pathetic husband of mine’ was right in front of me! I slapped him to snap him out of it, and then you just—”
The more I explained, the more his expression darkened.
He even let out a disbelieving, hollow laugh.
‘Yeah. If I were him, I wouldn’t believe me either. It’s a miracle he’s not calling me crazy.’
But his disbelief seemed focused elsewhere.
“…‘Pathetic husband of mine’?”
He repeated my words slowly, as if struggling to believe what he’d heard.
After murmuring that phrase a few times, he finally locked eyes with me, his jaw set hard.
“It seems my wife knows many ways to insult her husband.”
My wife?
Oh dear—he’s as unhinged as I am.
I let out a laugh and asked mockingly,
“Wait, are you saying I’m your wife?”
He frowned slightly, clearly displeased with my reaction.
“Yes. You remain my wife—and the Grand Duchess of this Twins Grand Duchy. Unfortunately.”
“Oh, I see. So you’re the Grand Duke—of the Twins Grand Duchy…?”
At that moment, an ominous feeling choked my words.
Simultaneously, a memory flashed before my eyes like a reel of film.
The Twins Grand Duchy—that was the domain of the male lead in the novel I’d been obsessed with: .
‘Don’t tell me… I’ve somehow transmigrated into this novel?’
But almost immediately, I shook my head and laughed bitterly.
That’s ridiculous…
My life could never be blessed with such a fantasy.
Though… that novel really was entertaining.
What was the male lead’s name again…?
ads
“Ah—Cedric Twins.”
I finally recalled it and whispered the name softly.
At that, the man twisted one corner of his lips into an unreadable expression.
“So you pretended to have lost your memory moments ago, yet—unfortunately—my name remained intact.”
He spoke as if he’d hoped I’d forgotten even his name.
‘His name? Does that mean I really have transmigrated into the novel?’
Unable to accept this reality, I looked around again.
The furniture, the interior, even the man’s attire—all medieval.
Looking down, I saw myself draped in a flowing dress, long red hair spilling over my chest.
It really did seem I’d transmigrated into the novel.
‘If he’s the male lead Cedric… then who am I?’
A nameless dread crept over me.
Somehow, I knew I wasn’t the female lead.
‘And if the male lead is glaring at me like this right from the start of a transmigration story, then I must be…’
Just then,
Cedric uttered that terrifying name.
“…Rebecca Twins.”
His face, already cold as winter wind, turned even more frigid as he looked down at me.
“I truly hope your words about divorce are sincere.”

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
