Her calm was restored somewhat by his kiss, and Camilla let out a long sigh. “You’re too naive, Henry,” she said.
Henry chuckled. “Me, naive? I wonder how Robellia would react if she knew about us.”
At Henry’s careless remark, Camilla’s thin, arched eyebrows furrowed in irritation. “Why are you bringing up that girl, Robellia?”
Camilla had harbored feelings for Henry since her girlhood days. However, her family, barely maintaining their baronet status, was quite impoverished. The bitter feeling she felt when she lost Henry to Robellia, a longtime friend and the young lady of the Bart family, was indescribable.
Even now, the thought ignited an uncontrollable rage within her. Soon after, she herself married another man, securing her position as the countess of her husband’s family. But the flame in her heart for Henry never died out.
Countess, queen of the social circle, the only maid of the duchess – with these titles, she gained many things. Then she decided to approach Henry again.
Was it fate that Henry and she were meant to be? Around that time, Robellia’s solid backing, her parents, passed away. Now, Robellia was just a naive girl, left only with the bloodline of the Bart family. Convinced that she could offer Henry more than that girl, Camilla seduced him. Since then, everything went as she desired.
“…until Rebecca, that foolish duchess, changes her mind.”
Because of Rebecca’s change of heart, Camilla could no longer obtain useful information from Henry. It was then that her heart began to flutter uncontrollably.
The anxiety of possibly losing her beloved Henry, jealousy towards Robellia, and hatred towards Duchess Rebecca consumed her.
Whether Henry knew of Camilla’s tumultuous feelings or not, he remained silent, deep in thought. Then, he muttered almost to himself, “Lately… Robellia seems different.”
He gently wrapped his arms around Camilla’s back and kissed her cheek. “Camilla, don’t worry too much. I’m here.”
Soothed a bit by his kiss, Camilla exhaled deeply. “The problem is, you’re too naive, Henry.”
“Ha-ha, me? I wonder how Robellia would react if she knew about us,” Henry casually remarked.
Camilla’s thin, arched eyebrows crinkled irritably at his words. “Robellia? Why are you bringing her up again?”
Camilla had cherished Henry since her girlhood. But her family, barely maintaining a baronetcy, was of meager standing. The heartbreak of losing Henry to Robellia, a longtime friend and daughter of the Earl of Bart, was still acute.
Even now, thinking about it stirred an unbearable rage in her. Eventually, she herself married another man, securing the position of a countess.
However, her heart’s flame for Henry continued to burn. Countess, socialite queen, the sole maid to the Duchess – having gained much with these titles, she finally resolved to approach Henry.
Were Henry and she meant to be by fate? As if on cue, Robellia’s strong support – her parents – passed away. Now, Robellia, naive and only possessing the lineage of the Bart Earl, was no match for her.
Convinced she could offer Henry more than Robellia, Camilla enticed him, and since then, everything had gone her way.
“…until Rebecca, that foolish Duchess, changes her mind.”
Due to Rebecca’s fickleness, Camilla was now unable to acquire useful information through Henry.
That was when her heart started to flutter uncontrollably. The anxiety of potentially losing Henry, a lovable opportunist, jealousy towards Robellia, and hatred towards Duchess Rebecca.
Whether Henry knew of Camilla’s feelings or not, he remained silent, deep in thought. Then, he mumbled almost to himself.
“Lately… Robellia seems different.”
“Lately… Robellia seems to have changed,” mused Henry.
Once again, Robellia’s name was mentioned, and Camilla’s tone rose sharply.
“Henry! Why do you keep mentioning Robellia in front of me?”
“Camilla, it’s just that…”
“Maybe she’s noticed something about us! Is that the problem? I would rather have that clueless Robellia find out about us sooner. Don’t you think?”
Henry, without even glancing at Camilla, calmly shook his head. “There’s no benefit in getting caught so soon. Besides, I was just saying Robellia has changed a lot.”
“…”
“It doesn’t seem like she’s taking care of our parents as she used to. And she seems to be somewhat cold towards me too…”
“Henry!”
Camilla finally couldn’t hold back and snapped angrily.
Henry’s beautiful face, his boyish smile, and even his materialistic desires – she loved everything about him. But his voice mentioning Robellia was unbearable.
Ever since childhood, Robellia had been a presence that provoked her sense of inferiority.
“How can you talk about Robellia in front of me? How can you be so thoughtless?”
Grinding her teeth in frustration, Camilla confronted Henry, who appeared wronged. “But Camilla, we’ve talked about Robellia before, haven’t we?”
“That was when we were slandering that stupid girl!”
Camilla’s face was already a mix of anxiety and fury.
Eventually, Henry sighed deeply and turned his back.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
