He let Henry and the boys gossip, dryly labeling Juno as “perfectly ordinary” just to shut them up. But the exact microsecond Elisha announced, “Your childhood friend is here,” Alan completely lost his mind. Bolting down a literal mountainside like an Olympic sprinter, leaving his teammates eating dust, completely exposed him. The final touch of him skidding to a halt, suddenly suffocated by self-conscious panic over smelling like sweat in front of her, is an incredibly loud defeat for the resident edge-lord.- Juno spending a three-hour subway ride testing the Stone of Truth like a nervous wreck, planning a whole theatrical routine to ease Alan’s trauma, is incredibly endearing. She wanted to play the cool, knowing magician presenting a comforting answer, only for Alan to effortlessly checkmate her by turning the stone on her. Watching her face turn into a boiling tomato when the stone cheerfully chirps [That is true. To some extent.] to her being “nosy by nature” is pure gold. But the absolute best part is that instead of being cynical, Alan completely loses his cool persona and bursts into a rare, beautiful, genuine laugh that leaves Juno entirely entranced.
- Alan Jade’s thoroughly disciplined, 30-year-old regressor brain completely short-circuited the exact moment his mouth “moved on its own” to bring up his school popularity. Watching the Stone of Truth frantically vibrate, desperate to expose his sudden burst of petty jealousy, while Juno slammed her hand over it to save them both from the awkward truth is pure comedy. To make it better, his punishment for that slip-up was a massive bill for an upscale New York dinner, an extorted convenience store ice cream, and a campus-wide rumor that he spends his free time gazing fondly at his voracious, cute girlfriend. He can deny it all he wants, but his absolute silence to the boys speaks volumes!
