Throughout the P.E. class, it was Jason and Melvin who were throwing discs.
To pass the boring P.E. time, the two intentionally threw discs towards where people were, avoiding the teachers’ eyes.
Well, some might think it’s just mischief from energetic boys.
But such things can lead to big accidents if not sternly scolded and stopped.
This time too, Jason was about to throw a disc towards the cheerleading girls.
That’s when something flew and hit Jason’s head.
“Ouch!”
Something that flew from afar hit Jason’s head and fell onto the grass.
Jason rubbed his stinging back of the head and checked the grass.
“An eraser?”
A worn-out eraser was lying on the grass.
Did this hit my head?
Not in the classroom, but on the field?
Then again, sting, an eraser flew and hit his forearm.
“Ah, it stings!”
Jason rubbed his arm and burst out angrily.
But when he turned around, there was no one standing near him.
“What, what’s going on?”
Melvin, who was standing far away, walked over and asked. Jason gritted his teeth and asked.
“It’s you, right? You threw the eraser at me?”
“What are you talking about? Why would I carry an eraser around, and why would I throw it at you?”
“Don’t play dumb. I know you did it.”
The irritated Jason pointed his finger and yelled. And as he took a step to grab Melvin’s collar, his foot slipped as if stepping on ice.
“Ahhh!”
His foot slid forward, and his legs split straight. And as he collapsed to the ground, he grabbed Melvin’s P.E. uniform pants.
“Kyaaak!”
The cheerleading girls covered their eyes and screamed.
It was because Melvin’s pale pink trunks were exposed.
“Oh my god, my eyes! My eyes feel like they’re rotting!”
“Damn boys, what are you doing at school? This is outrageous!”
The cheerleaders looked at Melvin with contempt as if seeing the most shameless person in the world, then ran across the field. Melvin turned beet red and hurriedly pulled up his pants.
“Jason, are you really crazy?!”
Melvin tried to stomp his foot in anger. But he couldn’t move easily, as if someone was holding his ankle.
Plus, the chill wrapping around his ankle. With a creepy feeling, Melvin stood stock-still.
“Wh-what?”
His ankle was firmly held, unable to move. It felt like ice was holding him, preventing movement.
But that doesn’t make sense. Ice in broad daylight?
A ghost would be more plausible.
‘A ghost?’
Melvin swallowed hard, feeling cold sweat running down his spine.
It felt like something terrible would start if he looked down.
Then someone whispered.
“Are you going to throw discs at people again next time?”
“Huk!”
Something invisible poked Melvin’s side.
“I’m the ghost of someone who died from being hit by a flying disc. Even with me here, are you going to keep throwing discs at people? Are you a psychopath or something?”
“Ah, no. That’s not it…”
“Then don’t throw discs towards people. And don’t bully your friends. Do you understand me?”
The voice was heard circling around Melvin. As if walking around him.
It was strange to hear the sound of footsteps on grass when there was clearly no one around except Jason, who had fallen with his legs split.
Melvin wanted to sit down at the eerie sound coming from around him. He squeezed his eyes shut in fear.
The ghost whispered.
“Just in case, don’t wet yourself. I want to teach you a lesson, not ruin the rest of your school life.”
“Y-yes…”
“Good boy.”
Then, as if patting him for being good, an invisible hand slapped Melvin’s back.
Melvin, hit once by the ghost, fainted standing up with his ankle caught in Adrian’s ice.
“Oh my, I didn’t expect him to faint.”
The ghost muttered.
* * *
Because of what happened during P.E. class, Jason and Melvin were making a fuss about there being a ghost at school.
Of course, others didn’t believe them. They rather dismissed the two, saying why would a ghost appear in broad daylight.
The two must be feeling frustrated and about to go crazy.
I sat on the slope overlooking the school and laughed like a villain watching this scene.
“Now they won’t be able to throw discs at other kids, right? They’ll think of me if they try.”
I throw erasers to distract, then Adrian binds Melvin’s feet with ice.
Then I, with ‘Extra’s Basics (A)’ activated, pretend to be a ghost and scold the kids.
Despite it being a simple prank, Jason and Melvin seemed to have an innocent side, not even thinking that the ghost incident could be a prank by an awakened one.
Well, the male supporting characters in teen dramas do have a bit of innocence, don’t they?
I flopped down on the neatly trimmed grass above the field with a light heart. And I glanced to the side.
Adrian was sitting next to me, still looking down at the field.
‘Ah, again.’
The side profile of a handsome man lost in thought.
Whenever Adrian sinks into thought with a sorrowful face, the weather mysteriously turns cloudy and a cool breeze blows.
And his calm blonde hair sways over his pale face. Is this the privilege of a teen drama’s male lead?
‘Why are you looking so gloomy again.’
I had him conspire to cheer up Adrian for once, but Adrian just had a blank face.
I reluctantly asked.
“Adrian, are you still worried about Thompson’s party?”
Only then did Adrian turn his gaze to me. I turned my head slightly, lying on the grass, to meet his gaze.
“That day, you saved me when I was about to be shot by Thompson’s gun. So you don’t need to worry about what happened then. Although you used a wide-range and explosive skill, in the end, no one got hurt. I don’t think you need to dwell on it anymore.”
Adrian raised his eyebrows, looking a bit surprised at my words.
“…Is it obvious that I’m worried about that time?”
“A little?”
Actually, it shows a lot, but I said a little.
Adrian hesitated for a moment, then said.
“Well, fortunately, no one was hurt then, but at Thompson’s party, I activated my skill because I felt angry for some reason. It’s strange that I used a skill I couldn’t use before, but I think someone could have gotten hurt if things had gone wrong.”
Adrian hugged his knees and gazed into the distance.
“There’s no guarantee it won’t happen again.”
“Hmm.”
I put my hands behind my head as a pillow. And I exhaled a long breath while looking at the clear and bright sky.
“Your skill isn’t just dangerous, Adrian. You’ve joined the school dungeon team and are closing dungeons with me. Thanks to us, Connecticut state is peaceful. It’s thanks to you too. So don’t blame yourself too much for misusing your skill once.”
I’m not good at comforting, so I can’t think of anything cooler to say. I can only encourage him that he’ll do well.
“And if something similar happens next time, Victor and I will keep you from going astray.”
“…You?”
“Yeah. Believe it or not, I’ve gotten a lot stronger. Thanks to basic physical training. Taking care of you alone would be no big deal.”
I’m no longer who I used to be. Not a paper-thin nerd body anymore.
I proudly showed him the calluses on my palm. Guitar practice might give you calluses like this too, but I was still proud.
Adrian blinked his clear eyes and looked at my palm. Then he smiled softly.
“You’re reliable, Juno.”
“I know.”
I said, rolling around on the grass.
“Looks like it was a good decision to be on the same team. We even take personal revenge together.”
“Yeah, if kids bully or tease you again, tell me, Adrian. I’ll play ghost for you next time too.”
Adrian burst into a small laugh, then flopped down next to me. He turned towards me and asked.
“Is this like Juno’s secret base? This slope overlooking the field.”
“What? It’s school property, how could it be?”
“Still.”
“Well, I’m the only one who comes here, but…”
Along with the moist scent of soil, Adrian’s lake scent spread freshly. And the maple syrup scent from when we caught slimes last night also wafted by.
Come to think of it, Adrian must have suffered from the sap too, so the smell remained.
Suddenly, I thought that Adrian and I would have the same scent.
Adrian looked at me quietly for a moment, then smiled with his eyes.
“Don’t tell other kids about this place. Let’s keep it between you and me.”
But this isn’t private property, it’s school grounds…
However, I didn’t want to break this peaceful atmosphere, so I just nodded vaguely.
* * *
After school classes and training at the underground base, I trudged home.
It was nice that Benjamin drove me from the training ground to home.
The training is a bit intense, but if I collapse exhausted like a wreck, the ‘Student Slayer’ title takes away all the fatigue.
Thanks to that, I can live with clear, bright eyes at school and at the training ground.
Victor said my clear eyes were burdensome and scary, but. Anyway, I was steadily maintaining my double life.
‘This seems to suit me quite well?’
As I passed through the small garden after the front gate, a delicious smell wafted from the house.
“Oh, is dinner fish today? Omega-3 and protein.”
My mouth watered at the savory smell of fish oil.
Thinking today was my lucky day, I was about to insert the key into the front door.
A familiar voice caught my nape.
“Juno, long time no see.”
