Rian’s gaze was fixed on the carrot bunch, but the thoughtful expression on her face seemed deep and complex, filled with various thoughts.
‘With this quality, it will surely sell for a high price. If left alone, it might go bad and become inedible. How can I sell it?’
If it had a connection with the palace kitchen, she could somehow sell it, but Rian not only had no connection with the kitchen but also didn’t know what it looked like.
Even though they were doing similar work, the difference in status between a royal chef and a maid was like heaven and earth.
Milah, seemingly sharing similar thoughts, stared at the carrot bunch for a while and then spoke with a heavy voice.
At first, she didn’t want to touch it, but the taste of the carrot turned out surprisingly good, and perhaps due to the unexpectedly happy emotions felt during the harvest, even though it was just a carrot, it felt somewhat special.
“Berudra Castle is the farthest from the entrance of the palace. And it’s impossible to take this many carrots out of the palace.”
Milah was a person led more by reason than emotion. If she said so, it truly meant there was no solution.
The faces of those who had been looking at Milah with hopeful anticipation were touched by disappointment as it passed.
Even with some distance, the sweet scent of the carrot bunch was carried by the wind.
“Is there really no way?”
Stella asked with a regretful expression. Sighs echoed from various directions.
“Then what should we do with all these carrots?”
Ruminating on whether they have no choice but to let them rot, Darren unexpectedly suggested a solution.
“To be honest, there is a way to take them outside.”
Even as Darren spoke, his expression seemed to question whether it was okay to say this. Bryn, perhaps already knowing, vigorously shook his head, signaling it was not allowed, but it was already too late after the spill.
“What is it? What way is there?”
The gloomy atmosphere revived with Darren’s words. Bryn let out a deep sigh as if resigning himself to the situation. His expression seemed to say, “Do as you please.”
The extinguished hope rapidly rekindled, and Stella’s voice gained strength. If a way to sell the carrots appeared, it seemed they could work even harder as noble farmers in the future.
What she grew was undoubtedly different from ordinary crops in terms of taste and color. Once someone tasted it, they would inevitably come back for more.
“There is a slightly crumbled wall behind Berudra Castle. If you pass through there and go through the forest path, you’ll reach a village. The road is narrow, but not too difficult, so you can even pull a small cart.”
Milah, who had been silently listening to Darren’s words, made a contemplative expression before asking, “Is it by any chance Conpayo?”
“Yes! That’s right. Once you cross the mountain, you’ll arrive directly at the village of Conpayo.”
However, Stella struggled to understand the conversation between Darren and Milah throughout.
“Can such a massive castle wall be easily breached like that?”
The castle was always strictly guarded, and the gates were tightly closed to prevent anyone from understanding the structure of the castle until they arrived at Berudra through the main entrance. It was the same when going to the capital.
“Each section around the capital is like a massive wall. Do you remember how many gates you need to pass through to get from the Plant District to the capital?”
“Five?”
Stella, recalling the moments when the carriage stopped intermittently during the journey, responded uncertainly.
“Yes. The capital is surrounded by sturdy and tall walls, five in total. Berudra is the castle outside the fifth wall.”
“The very corner, indeed.”
Suddenly, her situation visually and spatially struck Stella. However, being in the corner might have turned out for the better. Thanks to that, there was a way to reach the village without going through the cumbersome process.
“I have to go and see.”
As Stella, eager to move, stood up, Milah firmly blocked her way.
“Princess, you cannot go on your own.”
“Why?”
Milah, after a brief pause, spoke in a voice devoid of warmth.
“If it is discovered that the princess went out secretly, we do not know what punishment you might face.”
“Has no one ever gone out of the palace before?”
“No, never.”
Milah’s response was resolute. Despite trying to smile during this, Liane only made the atmosphere more awkward.
He had suspected it, but being trapped without any way out hit him once again.
“I see. I have to stay in here without any movement.”
Stella smiled bitterly. However, no one could offer immediate comfort or say that everything was fine.
It was a moment when Stella felt intensely lonely even among people.
In the end, Daelen and Bryn decided to go out and sell the carrots. It was disappointing not to be able to take them out personally, but there was no other way. Daelen knew the way best, and he had enough strength to pull the cart.
That night, Stella filled three well-baked carrot pies into a basket and went out to the garden.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
