For the first time in a while, Stella had dinner with the entire Verdura household. Looking at the faces that had now grown familiar, she missed Ludina even more.

She worried about where Ludina was and who she was with. If only she knew her whereabouts, she could at least send word through a letter—but right now, even that was impossible.

“Princess Stella, are you very tired?”

The dining table was filled with dishes Stella especially enjoyed. Rian had gone to great lengths for Stella, who had just returned after so long.

Startled from her thoughts by Brin’s question, Stella finally realized everyone seated around the table was watching her with concern, and she felt embarrassed.

“Yeah… I guess I was.”

Stella smiled gently, then tore off a piece of the carrot bread Rian had made and dipped it into her soup. The warm, nutty cream soup paired wonderfully with the carrot bread.

“Oh, by the way—has Daren been to the market lately?”

“Yes, I went with Auntie Rian and sold all the remaining carrots.”

It was welcome news as she listened. Suddenly, though, she remembered the man who had approached her at the market, introducing himself as Ian.

“Did you also meet someone named Ian?”

“…Yes.”

Something about Daren’s expression wasn’t quite clear anymore. Ever since hearing the name “Ian,” he couldn’t even meet anyone’s eyes and kept stirring his soup pointlessly with his spoon.

Rian hated that habit most of all and rarely did it—but even Rian was now merely picking at her soup, seemingly troubled.

“What are you hiding?”
