Lian’s gaze turned toward the sack of carrots, but her thoughtful eyes appeared deep and complicated with many thoughts swirling within.

‘With quality like this, they’ll surely sell for a high price. If left as they are, they’ll rot and become inedible. How can I possibly sell them?’

If she had any connection to the royal kitchen steward, she might find a way to sell them somehow—but Lian didn’t even know what the steward looked like, let alone have any connection to him.

Though they both worked in similar roles, the gap between her status as a maid and that of the royal kitchen steward was as vast as heaven and earth.

Milla, seemingly sharing the same thoughts, stared silently at the sack of carrots for a long while before finally speaking in a heavy voice.

At first, she hadn’t even wanted to touch them, but the carrots tasted astonishingly delicious—far better than expected—and perhaps because of the rare sense of happiness she’d felt while harvesting them, even ordinary carrots now seemed somehow special.

“Verdura Castle is the farthest from the imperial palace’s main gate. And it’s impossible to take such a large quantity of carrots out of the imperial grounds.”

Milla was someone who always let reason override emotion. If she said there was truly no way, then there really was none.

Disappointment flickered across the faces of those who had been watching Milla with faint hope.

As the wind blew, the sweet scent of carrots drifted strongly despite the considerable distance between them and the sack.

“Is there really no way?”

Stella asked with clear disappointment in her expression. Sighs rose from all around.

“What about all these carrots, then?”

Just as everyone was resigned to letting them rot, Daren unexpectedly suggested a solution.

“Actually… there is a way out.”
