Harmann, who had been sneaking another Lumina Berry, jumped in surprise at Iver’s sudden shout and dropped the berry he was holding.

All eyes in the office turned to him, and his neck flushed red as if he’d been caught committing a secret crime.

While Harmann hesitated, Iver, who had been perched on Kai’s shoulder, dashed across the shadows toward him. As Iver passed beneath their feet, the shadows hastily parted and retreated backward.

In the blink of an eye, a straight path formed between Kai and Harmann, and the shadows’ heads naturally followed Iver as she ran down the newly cleared lane.

Every one of them couldn’t take their eyes off Iver.

“You didn’t eat it, right?”

Iver, having arrived instantly at Harmann’s feet, picked up the fallen berry and circled around him, repeating the same question several times.

Though Harmann valued manners as dearly as his own life, he wasn’t offended in the slightest by the tiny creature’s blunt speech.

“What? Will you die if you eat it?”

Harmann, who had initially thought nothing of it, began to worry quietly as Iver kept pressing the question—because he’d secretly eaten an extra berry earlier while distributing them to the shadows.

The Lumina Berry, with its pleasantly bitter, nutty flavor and refreshingly crisp aftertaste, was the perfect snack for Harmann, who didn’t particularly care for sweets. He’d even tucked a few into his pocket to enjoy later.

“It won’t kill you, but you’ll really suffer.”

“…S-suffer?”

At Iver’s serious words, Harmann’s face turned deathly pale. The shadows listened intently to their conversation, holding their breath with curious eyes.

It was astonishing enough that eating just one berry made an invisible being suddenly visible, but seeing the Emperor and his steward speak casually with it felt so miraculous it seemed as if the world had turned upside down.
