At Stella’s faint whisper, Croft brightened instantly and let out a sigh of relief.

Dark circles shadowed Croft’s eyes from sleepless worry, making his already thin face appear even more haggard.

“How did you end up here… Teacher?”

Stella tried hard to recall last night’s events, but her mind remained foggy, as if she’d just awakened from a deep dream.

She’d never felt such pain in her entire life. Her whole body felt weighted down as if chained with heavy iron balls, and she lacked even the strength to lift a single finger.

Her breath came out scorching hot, leaving her lips parched, and her body alternated between chills and feverish heat, leaving her drenched in sweat.

Then, when she finally regained consciousness, she found herself already clutching a pickaxe and rushing out into the garden, swinging it wildly at him the moment she spotted him in the darkness without a second thought.

What baffled her even now was her absolute certainty that she could defeat that terrifying figure—armed with a longsword—using nothing but a mere pickaxe.

“Daren and Brin came to fetch me in the middle of the night, saying you were unwell, Your Highness.”

Stella turned her head and spotted Daren and Brin standing awkwardly by the door.
