Kai wondered if he’d heard wrong. He knew yetis preferred raw meat—so much so that they’d eat anything as long as it wasn’t another yeti. Yet out of nowhere, they were asking for sugar-coated peanuts.

Noticing Kai’s puzzled expression, Iver added an explanation.

“Yeah. I guess the smell was really strong.”

They’d won the battle against the Morths, and countless soldiers had survived thanks to it. Yet the price for that victory was merely sugar-coated peanuts.

Kai scrutinized the face of the yeti leader standing before him, suspecting the creature might be joking. Aside from being entirely covered in white fur, the yeti looked remarkably similar to a human.

Of course, its height and build were far larger than a human’s, but its overall appearance was so strikingly alike that Kai believed he could discern the yeti’s true intentions from its expression.

But ever since Iver mentioned sugar-coated peanuts, the yeti kept licking its thin, black lips repeatedly, smacking its mouth with evident longing.

Even amidst the blood-soaked air, the yeti flared its nostrils as if catching the scent of sugar-coated peanuts, stretched its neck toward the tent where the sacks were stored, and pursed its lips into a tight circle.

It was unmistakably clear that the yeti’s mind was entirely consumed by the desire for sugar-coated peanuts.

“Do you really only want sugar-coated peanuts?”

“Huh?”

At Kai’s question, the yeti—who had been moving restlessly—turned its head precisely toward Kai. Its small, round ears, barely visible upon close inspection, flapped wildly.

Its black eyes were sharply focused, as if it fully understood human speech. It was a blindly fervent gaze, fixated on a single purpose.

Kai suddenly recalled Melissa’s eyes—the same desperate, burning look she’d had when she’d been obsessed with defeating him. He never imagined he’d see that same expression in a yeti.
