I Decline the Ex-Boyfriend of the Regretful Male Lead (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 116
By Hertian’s order, all the maids had to return. He sent them away, saying there would be no divorce or anything of the sort since she was his, and told them to each carry out their duties.
The maids who had no tasks looked at Hertian reproachfully when he offered them extra work. Still, they seemed relieved by his words that he wouldn’t consider divorce or such nonsense.
He also returned all the money the maids had supposedly offered to Jackson.
‘I didn’t realize everyone was working so hard for my sake.’
Even if they’d known, they weren’t particularly close to me. Thinking only Bonisa cared about me had been my mistake—all of them genuinely considered me a true member of the ducal house.
Perhaps that was why. For some reason, the ducal palace didn’t feel cold today. My body, which had felt as heavy as waterlogged cotton, now felt light, as if it had recovered.
With lighter steps, I headed toward Hertian, holding the note Bonisa had delivered. He was sitting in his study, smelling faintly of fresh soap—apparently he’d just bathed. Wanting to inhale more of his scent, I moved closer, and he willingly offered me the seat beside him.
“This is the note found in the laboratory.”
The yellowed paper was speckled with dark dust here and there. Looking at the unopened note, Hertian asked,
“You didn’t open it right after finding it?”
“Oh, well… the situation wasn’t exactly suitable for opening it then.”
Hertian had been under the influence of the poison my mother gave him, so the antidote had taken priority.
Thinking back on it now made me blush anew. It wasn’t the first time I’d kissed Hertian—back then, I never dreamed things would turn out like this. I’d simply hoped he wouldn’t be upset and had brushed it off as an awkward mishap.
“Your face is red.”
“Oh, no, it’s not! Just open it quickly.”

What happened that caused Serdis to go off the deep end like this? He has always been pushy and obsessive but this is a whole new level of villainry. Hitting Annette and wanting to torment her instead of wanting her affection. I wonder if Violet cast more forbidden magic.
What type of twisted logic is this? ‘It has no enchantment on it, so any magic could be stored within it’, yes but currently it’s empty like any other jewel. Then Annette reasons, ‘if Violet is casting strange magic on Serdis, perhaps this enchantment could offer him some protection’. How is an empty or blank enchantment supposed to offer anything? So the author wants Hertian to be affected as Serdis is by whatever magic is going on when he activates the ring, yet the author couldn’t come up with a better solution than having our typically intellectually/academically intelligent fl have a devastatingly illogical thought process. Or was there an error in translation?
