I understood the severity of Hertian’s question as one that could stake the entirety of the remaining life.
The only answer to that question was this.
“Of course.”
The answer was resolute, without an iota of hesitation. It was an issue involving my family, after all.
“Are you sincere?”
His face expressed surprise but also a hint of happiness.
“I am sincere.”
But what if there were a way to survive? I couldn’t possibly stay by Hertian’s side for the rest of my life.
“Even then, you wouldn’t?”
I relaxed my expression and gave a slight smile.
“I’m sincere too, aren’t I?”
His eyes narrowed dangerously.
“Aye, even so, asking for the rest of my life is too much. Of course, my ability is worth possessing for a lifetime, but that was too much.”
“I will make you happy for the rest of your life.”
“I am someone who is happy even by eating just one macaron. I don’t ask for great happiness.”
“I will prepare macarons, tarts, financiers, and madeleines for you every day.”
This time he began to promote himself.
Was he so enticed by my ability?
It was a deceptively powerful ability. It was a precognitive ability that couldn’t be bought, even with heaps of gold. Especially since he had once tasted it, it would naturally entice him. Of course, it was a welcome thing for me.
“Even after the contract ends, I will help you occasionally. Is that okay?”
His face looked unsatisfied.
He seemed to be a man with many desires, except for sexual ones.
After some thought, I added one more thing.
“You can choose when to divorce since you chose when to get married, right?”
I had given a lot. I had no choice. At this point, I needed him more.
“……I have no choice.”
He reluctantly accepted. And then he added, as if nagging,
“Your Highness. You must stay healthy. I will also help, so don’t give up on yourself.”
His words sounded so motherly that I burst into a silent chuckle.
“Don’t worry.”
“I am the one who is worried.”
He gently refuted.
Perhaps he was worried because it would be troublesome if the contractee died early. His frankness was appealing.
“Don’t worry about that either. I won’t harm you.”
[Star Icon][Star Icon][Star Icon]After bringing Anette home, Hertian, who had been tirelessly on the move, stopped his horse.
The place he found was a royal clinic located deep within the palace.
“Duke, it’s been a while.”
One of the doctors, who had been sorting out medical herbs, seemed to have been waiting and greeted him. Hertian checked if he was alone in the laboratory, then relaxed.
“What’s with asking how I am all of a sudden?”
Seeing Hertian for the first time in several years, he served a cup of tea brewed with medicinal herbs.
“I’m asking how you’ve been on purpose. I thought you’d seek me out first, but even after the victory ceremony, there was no word from you.”
“I was busy.”
Hertian looked at his teacup, then furrowed his brow as he remembered what had just happened.
It was shocking for him, too, that Anette had said she didn’t have much time left and asked him to use her. So that’s why she was in such a hurry to get married? She seemed to have come to terms with everything.
But what was even more serious was how he would be after Anette left. If Anette died, Hertian would lose his reason to live.
He shook off his deep thoughts and rubbed his forehead.
“Evan, the favor I asked?”
The only ray of hope was a new treatment. While he was on the battlefield, he had been working hard to find a new treatment for Anette. And Evan had helped him. One of the few people who had helped Hertian during his childhood in the palace.
“I delivered the potion you sent to Her Highness through Count Leamberea, but there was no significant improvement.”
As always, the result was a failure. Hertian was not too disappointed.
“Then next time, I should meet the owner of the tower and force him to make medicine.”
As always, he thought about trying a new method.
“It’s problematic because even magic can’t solve it. Count Leamberea has tried hundreds of methods that haven’t been tried before.”
The words of despair he had always heard felt particularly painful today because he had seen Anette collapse in person.
“Is there really no way…….?”
Hertian clenched his fist so tightly that the sound of leather crunching could be heard.
Evan spoke, looking at the list of potions he had gathered. Most of the medical ingredients recorded in the medical book were listed there. All of them were marked with red lines.
“It seems that neither medicine nor magic would be of any use anymore. It might not be a simple health issue.”
He was suggesting considering other possibilities.
‘If it’s not medicine or magic, then what could it be?’
Hertian reflected on the conversation he had with Anette.
When she failed in treatment, she often mentioned a curse out of grief. It was a remark made in complaint, but what if it was true?
“I guess I have to rummage through the emperor’s secret library.”

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
