Violet, even flustered by her own words, hesitated for a moment and then closed her mouth.

“I know you’re not. I just mentioned it because it seemed like I saw someone similar.”

Even with the added explanation, her face, now shrouded in darkness, showed no signs of returning.

Rather than being surprised by the sudden situation, I became worried.

“Did my words upset you by any chance?”

“No, not at all.”

Not really.

Violet’s emotions are quite transparent on her face.

The sunny smile she had just moments ago disappeared in an instant. Can there be any wonder why?

“If it seemed that way, I apologize.”

She made an effort to smile. She took a hurried sip of her tea and even coughed. She avoided eye contact, perhaps thinking it might be uncomfortable.

“There’s nothing to apologize for.”

“What business do I have to go out? I rarely go out these days, and I was just surprised because you mentioned seeing me.”

Her tone was calm yet drew a line.

“What business do I have to go out? If my lady wishes to go out, she should.”

“I’m not as free as you think. I can’t be that free, as my lady thinks.”

She lowered her eyes as she spoke.

“It’s been a while since I went out.”

Without asking for the reason, I kept my mouth shut.

Her soaked expression looked so sad.

A long silence passed. Since meeting Violet, there had never been such an occasion, so I continued to worry about her in my mind.

After a while, she emptied her cup.

“Can I say something like this suddenly?”

She spoke cautiously, like handling a young creature.

“You can say anything. If my lady hears it and wishes to erase it, I’ll erase it. I’m just here as a friend to my lady.”

“A friend, huh?”

“Since I first came to this mansion, we’ve been friends. Remember? When we first met.”

Trembling, I gently shook her hand first.

Her fingertips were cold. Why would her hands be so cold when the indoors are warm?

‘Perhaps it’s because of what I know?’

Why Violet is struggling, perhaps. There might not be anyone in this world who knows as well as I do.

Not family, not a loved one, not people around her.

All because of being a bastard child.

“Sometimes, I have such thoughts.”

Her eyes, as if swallowing her tears, looked at me.

“Why my lady doesn’t see me like others do. Why you always take care of me and welcome me. Why.”

The answer was simple.

Because you are the main character.

That was the first thought.

But it’s not now.

“Honestly, at first, I didn’t think I would become so close to my lady. Do you remember? When we first met.”

Boldly undressing Violet’s dress and putting on my dress, she became Serdice’s first dance partner and was positively reviewed by the nobles.

Of course, meeting Serdice turned out to be more arduous than expected.

“At that time, as I said before, I approached my lady to live. Despite the rude and suspicious circumstances, it was my lady who accepted me. At first, I thought you were cold. But looking closely, you’re cute. More than my lady thinks. I cherish you more than my lady thinks.”

I expressed my feelings to her without reservation. I felt sorry because I knew so much about Violet. There was no need to hide.

Violet’s large pupils were soaked as if absorbing moisture.

“I didn’t know that my lady thought of me that way. Even though my lady is popular in the vicinity, why would you want to be friends with a person like me…”

“I’m popular, you say?”

She nodded vigorously. It was a clear expression different from a moment ago.

“I only have two friends who exchanged letters with Lady Violet since childhood.”
“That’s right, Lady Violet can be friends whenever she wants. It’s different with me. No matter how hard I try, I don’t have anyone who stays by my side.”

“Later, those people will regret it.”

I said confidently.

“Later, shedding tears, they’ll line up in front of Lady Violet as if nothing happened. So, don’t shrink too much!”

I said courageously, holding her slouched shoulders.

It’s all true.

All those who ignore and curse Violet.

Family members who don’t accept Violet as a real family.

Beloved Serdis.

‘Are they all just going around holding onto Violet’s skirt, crying out loudly?’

“Pfft!”

She finally broke her tough expression. A clear laughter resonated gently.

I also smiled along with her beautiful smile.

The laughter of the two filled the place for a while.

“I’m sorry for ruining the atmosphere earlier. Actually, these days, I don’t want to go out and want to be alone, but being locked in the room feels like being trapped in a cave, so it’s too hard. Sometimes tears come out.”

It was the disease of her heart that she was suffering from.

A type of disease that is difficult to treat alone.

A long-lasting disease that doesn’t disappear just because the wound is healed.

Thinking about the time before I met my current family, my heart aches.

“I must be foolish, right? I can just go out, but I’m afraid of people’s eyes and how they’ll talk.”

“Why is that Lady’s fault? It’s the fault of those people who don’t recognize Lady and play among themselves.”

When male lead is the homewrecker

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.

Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.

The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.

I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.

There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.

For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.

I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

Here’s the story synopsis:

One-line summary: She is his lifelong obsession, to the point where he was willing to be a third wheel, scorned by society, just to wedge his way into her relationship with her fiancé.

Cold-hearted and indifferent female lead + Scheming and subservient CEO male lead

Intro 1:

“I know she doesn’t love him.”

With blood trickling from his clenched fist, Rong Xiu gazed at the woman before him, his eyes clouded with anguish. Hidden in the wardrobe, he had witnessed Fan Xia – the woman he desperately loved – in an intimate embrace with her fiancé. Yet his heart still yearned for her, defying all reason.

Fan Xia, the elegant and composed assistant, carried something mysterious in her eyes whenever she looked at her fiancé, Wen Lan Sheng. Strange occurrences began to surface – secret meetings with the young Gu Jin Yi, an unexplained withdrawal of 5,000 yuan… Then suddenly, her fiancé’s sister, Wen Jing, violently attacked her.

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.

Because he had discovered the truth – Fan Xia wasn’t the pure angel everyone believed her to be. And perhaps, he was the only one capable of helping her execute her mysterious plan…

Intro 2:

Rong Xiu’s biggest regret in life was missing out on Fan Xia.

He secretly loved Fan Xia for 7 years.

Watched her go public with her boyfriend.

Watched her kiss her boyfriend at their wedding.

Until that man blissfully nestled in Fan Xia’s arms, obtaining everything he could only dream of.

The crazy jealousy stripped away his hidden secret love, layer by layer, burning like wildfire.

Fan Xia, how can I have you!
