“It seems we can proceed as planned. Even after infiltrating the imperial capital, let us move first. The rest of the knights should keep their distance and set off later, just in case.”

Sir Dante addressed the youngest-looking knight among the ten members, signaling him to relay his instruction to the others waiting behind.

Eliminating the Imperial Palace Knights was Zieghart’s and the Duchy of Kshant’s responsibility, as assigned under mission X-1.

Their own objective, under mission X-2, was to reach the Emperor’s bedchamber and eliminate him. To avoid alerting the target and giving him a chance to flee, they had to infiltrate the Emperor’s chambers as stealthily as possible.

Thus, moving separately—as Sir Dante suggested—was wiser than traveling in a group and exposing themselves to unnecessary risk.

“Yes, understood!”

The knight, grasping the situation, moved promptly.

Sir Dante, who had just picked up the bag he’d set down on the ground, now gave a meaningful glance toward Natasha.

“…Will the captain accompany us as well?”

They had temporarily set aside any titles that might reveal their identities.

Given the urgency of the moment, the fact that Sir Dante bothered to ask her preference suggested he hoped Natasha would choose not to accompany him.

And rightly so—leading from the front was the most dangerous role of all.

Though fewer knights guarded the rear gate, that logic didn’t necessarily apply inside the palace itself; there could very well be a large contingent of knights lying in wait within.

They’d received word through Kayena that palace security had been weakened due to festival preparations, but since they couldn’t fully trust her at the moment, they couldn’t rule out the possibility that this information was a trap.
