It was then. Suddenly, the stillness around Natasha was disturbed by the presence of someone approaching.

Thanks to the royal family’s consideration, only the Aschardt couple remained in the corridor. Barring an intruder, there should have been absolutely no noise.

It didn’t take Natasha long to recognize the source of the footsteps. The familiar sound striking her ears instantly revealed the other person’s identity.

Her fingers, resting on the railing, twitched slightly.

Should she turn around now and face the man, or pretend not to notice and return to her room?

It was a trivial dilemma. Yet, the very act of hesitating held its own answer.

Because the Natasha Aschardt of the past, who had detested dealing with that man, Zieghart Aschardt, would never have hesitated at all.

Slowly turning her head, she finally met his gaze. Zieghart, initially unaware of Natasha’s presence in the thick darkness, realized her presence moments later and was taken aback.

Two pairs of crimson eyes locked onto each other. Though their faces remained indistinct in the hazy night, both knew precisely where the other stood.

The man seemed to gather courage. Perhaps seeing Natasha’s unwavering gaze gave him hope—his eyes briefly took on the shape of a crescent moon in the night sky.

Yet Zieghart didn’t move first. He waited for Natasha, as if fearing his hope was merely an illusion born of his own wishful thinking.

Thus, it was Natasha who spoke first.

“…Were you enjoying a pleasant night?”

It was a foolish question.

Even more foolish was how she couldn’t contain her frustration during the brief pause after asking it.
