“Kid… no, Marien. I’ll go in and report to Inspector Nicholas that we safely escorted young Daniel Heinz home, so you go and chat comfortably with Princess Nadia. Calling her by name must mean you’re really close. Well, then, I’ll take my leave…”

Jan bowed his head toward Nadia and hurriedly dashed into the police station. After turning back several times, he nearly tripped on the stairs before barely regaining his composure.

Marien gazed intently at Nadia. Every expression and movement of hers, born of noble blood, exuded elegance.

Close enough to call her by name.

Yes, everyone thought so. But Marien knew that wasn’t what it meant. Nadia had never once called her Madam Schneider. As if she didn’t want to acknowledge that Marien was Madam Schneider.

The cream-colored dress was so exquisite and beautiful that its price was unimaginable. The veiled hat atop her radiant silver hair and the silk gloves reaching her wrists further accentuated her grace.

It was understandable that Jan was captivated by her beauty. No, not just Jan. Anyone would be disarmed in her presence.

Perhaps… even Christoph.

For a moment, Marien felt ashamed of her own attire. Unconsciously, she hid her hands behind her back. Though there was nothing she could hide by doing so.

“You’re really here. The rumors must be true… the police station.”

The last words sounded almost like a murmur to herself. Nadia gave a gentle smile, then cast her gaze over Marien’s shoulder.

Christoph’s eyes met hers. The smile on Nadia’s lips deepened.

“I stopped by while passing through. Yesterday, it was too late to even have a proper cup of tea together. Since I’m here, I thought I’d greet Marien as well.”

Her tone was casual. Every time Marien heard that tone, she couldn’t help but clench her fists. It reminded her that the two had been childhood friends since they were very young.

Marien couldn’t share their exclusive memories.
