“Sit there, Marien.”

“Thank you.”

Marien sat down on the cushioned spot. Louis handed her a parasol and then untied the rope that had bound her.

“Please go ahead.”

At his farewell, Marien gave a light nod. Without a word in reply, Christoph lifted the oar and pushed off from the dock. The boat began to glide forward from the recoil.

“For someone who strides through the temple bell tower and makes people’s hearts drop, you’re rather clumsy at rowing a boat.”

Marien made a peculiar expression, as if unsure whether she should flutter her heart at the mention of it dropping or roll her eyes at the comment about his clumsiness.

In the end, she chose to sigh and opened her parasol.

“Isn’t it always like that at first? Unfamiliar things tend to bring fear, after all.”

“Is this your first time on a boat?”

Instead of answering, Marien simply nodded. Suddenly, Christoph’s eyes softened.

“This is also my first time sharing a boat with such a beautiful woman.”
