“I had a few picked out for you, just in case. I’m glad it helped.”

She couldn’t go to the capital in shabby attire. Rumors spread quickly in that city, where even a scratch could transform into a deadly disease.

Had they seen her work attire, rumors would fly that Marianne, rejected by Christoph, had ultimately fallen into poverty.

“……”

Unable to bear the weighty silence, Marianne started to move towards the entrance. Christoph slowly followed her.

The carriage was nowhere to be seen. Standing on the porch, Marianne contemplated for a moment and walked towards the garage. Christoph subtly raised an eyebrow.

“The carriage will arrive soon.”

“I thought a little walk might be good. I ate a lot of greasy food yesterday too.”

“I see.”

Christoph walked alongside her. There wasn’t much conversation, but it wasn’t uncomfortable or awkward. They shared a peaceful silence, just as when they used to commute together.

Louis was just connecting the horses to the carriage. Seeing the two, his expression became flustered.

The world was still bathed in the soft light of dawn. Louis, seeing the two out so early, looked somewhat aggrieved, as if he was being accused of laziness.

Marianne offered him a warm smile.

“Take your time, Louis. We still have plenty of time before the train. We just finished preparing early and were taking a stroll. Don’t worry about it.”

“Yes, Mrs. Schneider.”

Finally sighing in relief, Louis quietly focused on his work.
Marianne’s gaze, which had been sweeping over the expansive garage with an air of indifference, suddenly fixed on one spot. Her eyes widened in surprise.

Cars were parked there. That the Duke didn’t drive was a well-known fact to anyone living in Blauburg. How could one not be surprised to find a car in his garage?

Picking up on her questioning look, Christoph spoke in a nonchalant tone.

“It’s my car. Oliver came by in it last time. He was in such a rush he couldn’t even wait for the train. Then when he returned to the capital, he took the train. Suddenly claiming he dare not drive my car or some such nonsense. Thanks to him, it’s now just sitting here collecting dust. As you know, there are no servants here who can drive. It’s mere decoration, nothing more.”

“A very luxurious decoration, then.”

Marianne responded with a faint smile.

“Everything’s ready.”

Louis climbed onto the driver’s seat and took the reins in his hand. Just as Marianne was slowly taking her steps, the sound of footsteps approached from the direction of the mansion.

Christoph stopped in his tracks as he spotted Oscar. Just by looking at Oscar’s expressionless face, he sensed that something had happened.

“What’s going on?”

At his question, Oscar spoke in a troubled voice.

“A messenger just came from the train station. All train services departing from Blauburg have been halted.”

Christoph rubbed his forehead with his fingers and nodded for Oscar to continue.

“Last night, the last train departing from Blauburg apparently stopped on the tracks not long after leaving. Despite multiple engineers working on it, repairs are yet to be completed. They can’t even guarantee when it will be fixed. Only after it’s repaired can services resume.”

Train accidents, including derailments or breakdowns, were quite frequent. Steam engines were a nascent technology, and there were many areas still under development.

“Huh.”

Christoph let out a cold laugh, signaled Louis, and then turned his eyes to Marianne.

“It seems we’ll have to go by carriage. It’ll be an uncomfortable journey; is that alright?”

“Of course.”

Marianne nodded decisively, as though concerned her plans for the capital might be canceled. Oscar hesitantly broke the silence.

“Going by carriage would take at least half a day. The road is dangerous, and we’ll have to change horses midway. It’s a rather cumbersome journey. How about postponing the trip?”

At his words, Marianne’s expression clouded. She knew she couldn’t be selfish, but she couldn’t help but feel disappointed. She really wanted to meet the detective in charge of Veronica’s case. There were many things she wanted to ask him.

Staring at her face, Christoph stepped toward the carriage.

“There’s no time to dawdle. Time is of the essence.”

“Mrs. Schneider has to go to work tomorrow. We may not be able to return by then.”

“Ah…”

Caught off guard by the pointed observation, Marianne looked down at her feet in discomfort. Christoph casually gave a directive.

“Send someone to inform Detective Nicolas. They won’t fire you for taking a day off.”

“But.”

Marianne wet her lips with an uneasy expression. If she wanted to be treated as Marianne Cloche, she too had to act accordingly, and not take advantage of her privilege as Mrs. Schneider.

I can’t ask to be treated as Marianne Cloche only when it suits me.

“Ah!”

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day

It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.

The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.

Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.

If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.

It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.

The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.

In the end, everything will come together and be explained.

One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!

In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.

Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.

However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.

Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.

Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?

——

Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.

His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.

Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”

——

The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.

Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!

Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!

The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…

——

But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.

The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.

She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…

Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”

Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”

Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?

[Small Theater]

The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.

Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”

Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.

Zhu Wansheng: ?

Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…

On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.

Warm breath lingers on her neck.

“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
