“Mother. Father.”

“Yes. Have you changed your mind? Well, I suppose you’d rather die than marry that old man.”

“I’ll do it. I’ll marry him.”

“What?”

“What did you say?!”

Both of their faces changed at once.

“I said I’ll do it. Isn’t that what you wanted?”

Unfortunately, I won’t be moving according to your wishes.

I nodded with a wide smile.

The count and countess, who naturally assumed I’d obey them, could only gape silently.

“Do you really intend to marry that old man?”

“Even though you’re being sold off?”

“How bluntly you put it—’being sold off.’ Why? Do you dislike the idea of me being sold away?”

“That’s…!”

“What’s the difference between selling me off and using a mere seven-year-old child to make money?”

At those words, the countess let out a short, bitter laugh—as if she’d only just come to her senses. Of course, I knew perfectly well they weren’t the type to truly regain their senses from something like this.

They were born selfish, seeing only themselves, utterly indifferent to others’ feelings—sociopathic parents through and through.

Thus, there was no chance they’d change their minds just because I’d said a few words.

To them, their own interests came first; their behavior toward me wasn’t out of love or care—it was simply about keeping an obedient dog by their side.

Knowing that, it felt wonderfully liberating to act like a madwoman.

“So you’re just like us after all, yet now you pretend to be virtuous? Isabella? Just because you’ve grown older, you dare treat us this way? Are you trying to teach us a lesson?”

“Yes, I’m pretending to be virtuous. Honestly, I never expected you two to change just because I said this. I’ve watched you obsess over how to exploit Shasha and how to squeeze more out of the goose that lays golden eggs without cutting open its belly.”

I shrugged my shoulders with an air of ease.

“So I’m giving you exactly what you want—what’s the problem? I’ve agreed to marry as you wish, so why are you trying to persuade me?”

“…”

“You don’t even need to hesitate. Since you two feel no guilt of conscience anyway, just go ahead and sell me off.”

“Do you think saying that will stop us?”

I nodded firmly enough to make my hair sway.

“Yes, go ahead. But Mother, Father—since you two are the kind who use your own children and sell them off the moment they disobey, will you really just leave each other alone? When you eventually become useless to one another, will you still stay by each other’s side?”

“Are you trying to…!”

“You’re just worried, that’s all. Be careful—especially you, Father. You’ve always been swayed by Mother… I think it’s best you wake up. This is my final advice as your daughter.”

For a moment, I saw the count’s pupils waver. He wanted to deny it, yet having witnessed the countess’s actions, he seemed just a little uncertain.

“What advice? Let’s see how long you can remain so arrogant. Our affection for you ends here. How dare you threaten us!”

The countess, grinding her teeth, turned to leave but stopped when she noticed her husband standing frozen in place. She hadn’t seen him muttering something under his breath.

“What are you doing?”

“Huh… what?”

“Are you seriously shaken by such nonsense?”

“N-no… that can’t be. It’s just… it’s just…”

Of course it wasn’t nothing. Clearly, seeds of suspicion toward the countess had just sprouted in him—and she seemed to sense it too, glaring fiercely at the count.

“Don’t think foolish thoughts—just follow me!”

“Uh… uh…”

As if taking out on the count the slap she’d received from me, the countess sharply turned her head and stormed out.

The bewildered count kept glancing around nervously until, at the sound of his wife’s irritated voice, he scurried after her like a lizard with its tail cut off.

I watched them go and gave a quiet chuckle.

“What a perfectly matched pair.”

They’d exploited their children shamelessly and cast them aside without mercy when no longer needed—but surprisingly, the count and countess in this story never divorced.

Still, they often fought over many things.

“I really hope they split up this time. Considering all they’ve done to Shasha and seeing how they still show no remorse, I’d love for them to tear each other apart.”

I still didn’t understand why the count was so cowed by her. In Isabella’s memories, the countess hadn’t always been like this.

She’d been genuinely kind when the children were young. Of course, even then, their own interests always came first—but she hadn’t been nearly this ill-tempered.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

She hadn’t treated the count with such blatant disrespect either. But shortly after giving birth to their youngest, she began to change. The count was ignored as though he’d committed some grave sin, and he usually obeyed her every word without question.

“Not that it’s any of my business.”

Whether the count was ignored or beaten—it had nothing to do with me. Setting aside thoughts of them, I turned my gaze to Shasha.

Tears had already gathered in the child’s eyes.

“Shasha, what’s wrong? Why are you about to cry…?”

Having been too busy arguing with the two of them, I hadn’t paid attention to the child. Now I gently wiped the tears from Shasha’s eyes.

“Is it because of me that you’re hated too, Sister? I’m sorry… Shasha… Shasha just… loves you so much… But maybe it’s true—like Mommy and Daddy said—everyone becomes unhappy when they’re near Shasha.”

I firmly stroked Shasha’s dejected head.

“Shasha, did our parents say that? That being near you brings unhappiness?”

“Yeah… The puppy I loved got sick, and the maid who took care of me too.”

How could I possibly tell her that even those incidents were fabricated?

“I wish I could tell her everything.”

But if I did, Shasha might develop a deep hatred for humanity.

What the count and countess had done to Shasha… Fearing she might leave them someday, they’d gifted her a puppy to prove that only they could stay by her side.

The puppy, given to her on her fifth birthday, had been unhealthy from the start—and the countess even fed it medicine. As a result, the puppy died shortly afterward.

And that wasn’t all. The maid who’d doted on Shasha met a similar fate. She didn’t die, but it was still deeply traumatic for the child.

That was how desperately the count and countess wanted to keep Shasha close.

That was how they ensured no one else in the world would ever show Shasha affection.

They constantly spread rumors: anyone near Shasha would suffer misfortune.

They claimed her great power brought misery to those around her. The puppy and the maid—those incidents were meant not only to make Shasha obedient but also to instill fear in others.

So no one would dare stay near Shasha—or if they did, they wouldn’t dare give her their heart. They’d established a precedent: everyone Shasha loved would either die or fall ill.

Because of this, Shasha received no love from anyone in the household—not even from the maids.

“In the end, Shasha will learn the truth when she grows up.”

After all, the maid—poisoned by the count and countess—told Shasha everything. From that moment on, the child investigated the whole truth and developed a deep loathing for her family.

“So, Sister… Shasha is fine. Shasha just doesn’t want you to become unhappy. Shasha… they said my very existence is wrong.”

The present-day Shasha, unaware of the truth and believing the puppy and maid suffered because of her, looked at me with sorrowful eyes.

I pulled the child tightly into my arms.

“Shasha, you’ve done nothing wrong.”

“No… everyone says so. Except for Mommy and Daddy…”

Her self-esteem, so cruelly eroded, wouldn’t heal easily. A few kind words—”you’re pretty,” “you’re lovable”—couldn’t undo all she’d endured.

But I wouldn’t give up.

“Shasha is lovable.”

“Huh…?”

“You’re so lovable that just sitting quietly makes you utterly adorable. You don’t need to think otherwise. Anyone who fails to see your lovely qualities is simply foolish. I was a fool myself until recently.”

“Sister…”

Shasha pouted her lips at my words.

“It was just a series of coincidences. None of it was your fault. If what they say were true, something bad should’ve already happened to me—but nothing did.”

“But still…”

“Does Shasha love me less than she thinks? Not really like me that much?”

“No! I love you a lot…”

“Then something should’ve happened to me too—but nothing did, right?”

Only then did Shasha nod.

“Strange coincidences happen in this world all the time. So what happened to the puppy and the maid was just coincidence. You shouldn’t believe being near you brings misfortune, okay?”

Even so, Shasha kept pouting.

“But something bad did happen. Sister… you’re about to marry someone you don’t love—a strange man…”

“No. This is an opportunity.”

“An opportunity?”

“Yes! I really will get married.”

Shasha’s large eyes grew even wider.

“To… that old man? But that’s being sold off…”

“No. I’ll marry a wonderful man.”

“A wonderful man?”

“Yes! A man so handsome I’ll fall for him at first sight.”

Just then, Shasha’s expression—whom I’d expected to brighten—suddenly hardened.

“Sister… does that mean you’ll fall in love with him?”

“Huh?”

“If he’s so handsome you’ll fall for him at first sight… I wish you’d only love Shasha… I wish you’d only care for me… The thought of you loving someone else suddenly makes me so sad…”

Flames burst from Shasha’s body, causing the flowers around us to vanish instantly like popping soap bubbles.

“Sh… Shasha…?”

“I want you to love only me, Sister. Because I only love you.”

“O-of course! There’s absolutely no way I’d love that man.”

“Really?”

A bright smile spread across Shasha’s face, which just moments ago had been overwhelmed by emotion. She smiled as sweetly as flowers swaying gently in the breeze.

She looked so lovely and precious…

“I feel like I just witnessed something I wasn’t supposed to see…”

But Shasha seemed unaware of what she’d just said or done.

“Right now… she’s just inexperienced with emotions, that’s all.”

That must be it. I gave Shasha an awkward smile. Just then, her eyes sparkled brightly.

“Sister… did Shasha say something?”

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
