“I want to see you again. Even if I have to come up with the most ridiculous excuse.”

He looked utterly dejected, like a soaked puppy—similar to one that excitedly dashes outside at the first snowfall from the sky, only to rush back in moments later because its paws grew too cold. His emotions were all over the place.

Seeing him like that, I couldn’t possibly say, “I don’t want to,” or simply ask, “Just tell me already.”

“Alright. I’ll look into it once…”

Though it felt like I’d been forced into accepting a quest, I didn’t feel even the slightest bit annoyed or resentful. I was simply curious about why the Tower Lord was going so far.

Why hadn’t this man appeared in the past, yet showed up now? Somehow, I had a strange feeling that his sudden appearance might be oddly connected to me.

“You promised.”

“Yes.”

“Oh, Your Majesty the Empress. Might I ask when Lady Shanensia plans to visit the Mage Tower?”

Startled by the abrupt change of topic, I shifted my gaze toward Shanensia, who was still sound asleep. Despite our lengthy conversation, the children hadn’t woken up at all.

“I’ll let her go whenever she wishes.”

“I see… The children at the Mage Tower will be disappointed. They’ve all been waiting for Lady Shanensia.”

“The children?”

“Yes. There’s one child in particular who grew especially close to her. That child asked me today, ‘When will I get to see Shasha again?’ So I thought I’d ask.”

It was an incredibly gentle smile—a radiant one so bright it nearly hid his eyes.
