“It’s not about covering up.”

“If I’m to take your word for it, Lord Roywick, then who exactly is supposed to investigate? People who weren’t even in this room? How? Is there something secretly watching this place? Or do you intend to use the attacker’s own testimony as evidence?”

I pointed out each point one by one. Roywick, who had been treating me like water and trying to brush everything aside, gave an awkward laugh.

“Well… that’s…”

“Never mind. Even if we investigate now, if Archmage Teslora simply declares, ‘It’s true what the Tower Lord said—I didn’t attempt any attack,’ that’ll be the end of it. On the contrary, you’ll surely take issue with our actions and report us to His Imperial Majesty the Emperor. Let’s just leave it at that.”

Taken aback by my unexpected words, Roywick furrowed his brow.

“So suddenly?”

“Yes. But I’m a bit curious—will you continue shielding him even though you know what the Tower Lord has been doing all this time…?”

“What actions are you referring to?”

“I came here today specifically to file a formal accusation against the Tower Lord.”

Roywick glared at the Tower Lord as if to ask, “Is this really the end of it?” The Tower Lord, who had been defiantly using his large frame earlier but was now exhausted and slumped onto the sofa, shook his head side to side.

As if to say he knew absolutely nothing.

“An accusation? I don’t understand what you’re talking about. Against whom, and for what?”

“I intend to accuse you before Elder Council Head and the mages present here in the Tower—about what you’ve done by abusing your position and authority as Tower Lord.”

Roywick’s expression grew increasingly grim. He couldn’t possibly know how long I’d waited for this moment—how long I’d waited for the Elder Council Head and the Tower’s personnel to gather here, with everyone’s eyes fixed solely on me.
