I Became the Villain's Sister (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 111

A child who had vanished has been found?

“At that time, it’s said that slave traders were rampant throughout the Empire.”

Noticing my doubt, Caritos spoke up.

“Though such rumors circulated, it’s said no one actually went missing. When the temple investigated the slave traders back then, they claimed they only sold slaves from other countries into ours and never abducted our own people. They even argued that if they had done so, they wouldn’t have been able to settle in the Empire, insisting they were absolutely not criminals.”

“Does the temple investigate such matters?”

“Normally, they wouldn’t have—but since children from the orphanage disappeared, they did. It seems it was likely the High Priest’s unilateral decision at the time.”

“Hmm…”

“In any case, until then, no child from the orphanage had ever gone missing. Back in those days, the worst that happened was children going out together and being gone for a few hours—but then four girls vanished. Their ages were reportedly between five and ten.”

I simply nodded silently.

“Three of the children never returned, and only one came back. The strange part is that information about the child who returned after disappearing went missing.”

“Missing?”

“Yes. In the officially published documents, there’s no record stating that a missing child returned. Only records about the children who died were included.”

“Then how did you find out about it, Caritos?”

“The previous High Priest kept the original documents. I discovered them in his secret study.”

“Is it really okay to enter a secret study like that…?”
