Even though it was clear that all he did was order, Rian shamelessly asked for praise. His appearance seemed a bit cute, so I played a little prank. However, Rian’s face looked more hurt than before.
“It’s a joke. Rian, Tetel, both of you worked really hard. I didn’t expect you to bring them so quickly.”
I quickly scanned through the documents he brought.
Through Leandro, they obtained documents. These documents included records of hundreds of people working in the palace, including the outer palace, main palace, and knights.
Gender, age, family background, as well as documents guaranteeing their status and recommendation letters to enter the royal family. I thought I could find out the details by looking at this, but it turned out not to be the case.
“Did I think too easily?”
I had thought that there might be a duke behind all this. I was sure his name would be on the status guarantee or recommendation letters, but… not at all.
I wondered if he had used the names of non-existent noble families, but they all existed.
As I was looking at that, Rian sneaked up next to me.
“Any thoughts?”
“A little… why?”
“Let’s take a closer look first.”
Without answering his words, I quickly scanned through the documents. There were too many people, making it busy to even see details about them.
“Then, Tetel, what about…”
At that moment, Rian opened his mouth as if to give Tetel another order. An error that had not been visible all along appeared.
“Rian, could you ask Tetel for a favor?”
Tetel trembled as if he had a headache.
“Oh, Empress Mama. I’m already overwhelmed with heavy tasks…”
“You can ask someone else to do it. I just hope you spread some big rumors.”
He chuckled at my words.
“Do you have such an easy task?”
“I’m planning to investigate about the former emperor. Where the money is being spent… if there’s any money being embezzled.”
“Is there something suspicious?”
“Yes. So please. I believe in Tetel’s ability.”
“Do you trust me enough to entrust such a thing?”
“Yes. If Empress wants to actively participate, I’ll work hard, too…”
He patted his chest. There might be a resignation letter inside. Seeing him so clearly, it was enough to make me laugh.
“Don’t worry. I’ll ask someone with a loose tongue to spread rumors in the town.”
“Thank you. One more thing.”
“Yes? Isn’t that the end?”
“No. Look at this.”
I handed Tetel the documents. He quickly approached from Rian’s side. I showed him errors that I found after concentrating for a while. These were small errors that you wouldn’t notice unless you looked closely.
“The names of these families seem a bit strange.”
It felt like they existed as real families, yet had a peculiar feeling.
“What things?”
Tetel grinned and looked at me.
“For example, my family is Velocci, but here it feels like Belitz. It’s strangely similar with just a few letters different. I made it look like existing families when you glance at it.”
Is it the writer’s mistake or did someone intentionally confuse it by leaking information? I had such thoughts, but the recommendation letters from the maids beside the doubtful governess or Rodelo, and Melodin, a maid in the outer palace, were particularly like that.
“Oh my, I had no idea.”
Tetel’s face stiffened.
“Wait a moment…?”
After glancing at the documents I had organized, he widened his eyes.
“What on earth is this…! Who submitted such a sloppy document to the royal family?”
“Why would they do that?”
“This is unforgivable! Who on earth handled the paperwork like this!”
It was the first time he got so excited. His hands trembled at the thought of not being able to tolerate mistakes in work.
“I will conduct a thorough investigation into this matter again. I won’t let these guys off…! I’ll roll them around like crazy.”
But there was a strangely spreading smile on his face that said he wouldn’t let it go. His expression was filled with the determination to make others suffer as well; he couldn’t be the only one to endure.
“Thank you. Let me know as soon as it’s done.”
“Yes!”
“Then, Tetel, do well in your work.”
Rian shook hands with Tetel as if to say goodbye. It seemed like it was time for just the two of us. Rian seemed excited as if he could feel our time together.
However.
“You should come with me. In case there’s a problem, it needs to be approved by Her Majesty right away.”
“I was planning to…”
“You’re going to push it off…?”
“If Her Majesty personally asked for it, are you going to handle it so carelessly? Her Majesty, you entrusted Her Majesty’s request to Her Majesty, and Her Majesty handles it so roughly…”
“No, I was going to go right away.”
Rian, who spat out countless curses with his eyes towards Tetel, got up from his seat as if to say that we should go together. It was clear he didn’t want to go, and Rian, who had so much to say with his eyes towards Tetel, quickly disappeared.
After they left, Cherti came into the room.
She smiled brightly as she prepared tea for me.
“Empress Mama.”
“Yes?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
