Protection spells were even cast in case of potential appearance of hostile individuals.
“Yeah.”
The novel’s emperor had welcomed the empress before, but there had never been such a grand wedding.
“Why…”
“Didn’t you say you were tired of it?”
“Yes…”
At that moment when I wondered what he meant, a past conversation came to mind.
I had said such words before. At that time, Lian responded to my words, so I thought he understood… but he interprets it like this?
“So, I should do it properly so that you don’t get fed up.”
Was it really perceived that way? Was that why he prepared such a grand wedding?
“Well… I mean…”
“Originally, I should have formally announced it, but I wanted to give you a bit of a new stimulus.”
So, that’s what changed.
All because of the words I said. They were just very small words.
“I see…”
“But it doesn’t seem bad. As my first empress, it’s also a way to show you properly.”
“Weren’t there strong objections from the nobles? There might have been resistance to accepting you as the empress.”
His expression stiffened a bit. There seemed to be something.
“There were.”
I looked at him while reading the documents that had been handed over.
“Do I need to say it? Eventually, someone will pass on the words to me, right? I should prepare just in case. It’s better than not knowing and being taken by surprise.”
I grinned. Although people working in the palace called me empress, they were not nobles. Whenever they saw me, they seemed uncomfortable and often bit their tongues.
They probably wanted to put their own children on the empress seat, but I, who suddenly appeared, took that place. It was undoubtedly irritating.
However, I thought that if I were just taken to a separate palace without a wedding ceremony, my position might be precarious. But preparing such a grand wedding made the resentment peak.
So, I said it, and Lian’s expression darkened.
“Every time you say something like this, that child comes to mind. That child who, despite facing all kinds of troubles as the only princess, remained dignified.”
He kept peering at me as if I were that princess. In a situation where there were almost no people who knew about her and no records… I was in a dilemma about whether I should act like a princess for Liandro, or whether I should continue to exist as I am now.
“I am me.”
So, this was all I had to say. I am me. Please don’t peek at me.
“Yeah. Right. You are you. I spoke without reason.”
“No, it’s okay. If looking at me through the eyes of the princess helps you in some way, you can do as you wish. Because I’m someone you love.”
I spoke my mind and looked at him.
“No, I just remembered some memories. I didn’t want anything. I apologize for saying such things; I’ve become emotional due to various recent events.”
“That’s possible. Don’t hide or suppress your emotions.”
I held Lian’s hand tightly.
“Is it acceptable for the emperor to have emotions?”
“An emperor without emotions will eventually become a tyrant. It might be challenging to be too emotional, but having no emotions can also be a problem. So, don’t suppress yourself.”
“Thank you.”
“Do you have to be thankful?”
“Yeah. Regardless, there are many who don’t like you. The people who oppose me, those ambitious ones who still want to control me, and all the high-ranking nobles. They all dislike your sudden appearance.”
“Why don’t they like you?”
So that when I hear the reason next time, I can shamelessly answer.
“Our family is humble. We have nothing. I don’t know why I met the Emperor, but the sudden change in our relationship, which wasn’t even a romantic relationship, seems suspicious. Clearly, someone who appeared with some expectations. Have you properly investigated? They’re quite talkative.”
“When I meet those people… Can I do as I please?”
“Huh? Of course. But what are you planning to do?”
“Just. It’s just preparing for any possible situation. Haha, but Lian.”
“Yeah?”
I met his serious gaze again.
“Is it… okay not to inform that person separately?”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
