A man practically tumbled off his horse and hurried toward the Emperor.

The surrounding Imperial Knights moved to stop him, but the Emperor rose from his seat with a grave expression.

“What’s the matter?”

So shaken was the man that he rambled incoherently, repeating the same words.

Chaos erupted around them. Some scoffed, “You’re lying, right?” while others, seeing the man’s ashen face, grew solemn.

I stood up and moved closer to the gathering crowd.

Now I could hear their conversation more clearly.

“Young Master Stevens, calm down and tell us properly.”

At the Emperor’s words, the man took a deep, shuddering breath. His panting, like someone suffering from hyperventilation, gradually subsided before he spoke again.

“There’s an abnormally large beast deep in the forest. My companions and I shot arrows at it, and though we clearly landed fatal blows, it still charged at us. I barely managed to escape, but the others…”

“What happened to them?!”

Those who realized how badly things had gone froze with hardened expressions.
