I Became The Sword Of The Sword-Obsessed Male Lead (18 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 12
Knock knock knock.
Having returned from the garden to the mansion, I immediately headed toward Dietrich’s study, leaving only the words that I’d be right back after using the restroom.
And without hesitation, I cheerfully knocked.
Knock knock knock.
I’d already knocked twice, yet there was no reply telling me to come in.
“Where’d he go?”
With the thought of giving it one last try, I knocked again—knock knock knock.
And a moment later…
“Get out.”
…?
I hadn’t even entered, yet I was being ordered to leave.
Bewildered, I let out a hollow chuckle.
‘So you’ve been inside this whole time and didn’t answer?’
Honestly, his manners are absolute trash. Pure garbage.
Ignoring the order to leave, I called out through the door.
“Lord Dietrich. I have something urgent to discuss with you.”
“…….”
“It’s also a matter you absolutely must hear—it’d be very troubling otherwise.”
Unsurprisingly, no response came from inside the room.
‘As if I’d give up just because of that!’
This wasn’t just anything—it was my chance to meet Nocturne Frey.
I wasn’t so foolish as to kick away such a golden opportunity!
I squatted down with my back against the study door.
Dietrich couldn’t possibly stay inside his study forever; I intended to wait patiently until he came out.
Just as I’d resolved to do that—
With a creak, the study door swung wide open.
“Are you going to keep bothering me?”
I tilted my head back to see Dietrich looking down at me, still holding the doorknob, his unfairly handsome face as grumpy as ever.
“Oh, finally.”
“……Just state your business and leave.”
Wow, such eloquent speech.
Suppressing the urge to slap that broad back of his—just once—and be done with it, I forced a strained smile.
After all, I was the one who needed to humble myself today.
“Well, um… You said you’d attend the banquet today, right?”
“Come in and speak first.”
Seemingly annoyed by the sight of me squatting there, Dietrich grabbed my arm and pulled me up.
He was so strong that his single hand effortlessly lifted me to my feet.
Dietrich’s study wasn’t much different from the typical study depicted in any romance novel.
Bookshelves packed tightly with volumes lined the right wall, an antique dark-brown wooden desk sat in the center, and behind it loomed a large window.
While seated on the sofa directly in front of the desk, I glanced around curiously as Dietrich took a seat across from me.
“Get to the point.”
Seeing that he was at least willing to listen, I leaned forward eagerly and asked,
“Dietrich, you’re attending the banquet today, right?”
He stiffened slightly—perhaps unsettled by my casual use of his name without permission.
But it lasted only an instant.
I, noticing nothing, bubbled with excitement and chattered on.
“I decorated the banquet hall beautifully today. You’ll be absolutely amazed when you see it.”
“…….”
“Well, that’s not actually the important part.”
“Just tell me the important part.”
His cold, blunt words completely deflated my enthusiasm, and I pouted petulantly.
“Come on, can’t we have a little chat once in a while?”
“……Do you just want me to kick you out?”
“Take me to the banquet with you!”
An excruciatingly awkward silence fell between us.
I fidgeted with my fingers and rolled my eyes around while waiting for his answer.
‘Please say yes, please say yes…’
Since becoming possessed by the spirit of the sword, this was my most nerve-wracking moment yet.
The long silence finally ended when Dietrich coldly refused.
“No.”
“Why?!”
“Do you really need a reason? Have you forgotten you’re a maid?”
I’d expected exactly this.
I knew full well that someone of my station—a mere maid—would never attend the banquet, neither before nor ever again.
But I’d anticipated even this reaction from Dietrich.
I’d figured he’d give me that gloomy glare and snap, “No. Get out.”
Seeing him behave precisely as predicted, I smiled meaningfully, which made him flinch slightly.
Then, as if wanting to put more distance between us, he leaned deeply back into the sofa.
I stroked my chin thoughtfully and nodded.
“Yes, that’s right. I am a maid. But, Dietrich—I’m also the spirit of the sword. Take Harpe to the banquet.”
“You’re insane?”
His sea-green eyes were filled with disbelief.
Apparently, he thought bringing the family’s sacred blade to a banquet was an idiotic idea.
‘Hmm… How should I convince Dietrich?’
I needed a solid reason why he absolutely had to bring me along to the banquet.
While I racked my brain, Dietrich spoke first.
“You don’t mean to show this sword to the other nobles, do you?”
His words sparked a brilliant idea in my mind.
Now that I thought about it, despite having recovered Harpe—the Delgado family heirloom—Dietrich had never shown it to any other nobles.
‘If Dietrich was the one who found Harpe, why leave it gathering dust?’
Dietrich was undeniably the strongest candidate to inherit the Duchy of Delgado.
Julian, twelve years his junior, enjoyed the Duchess’s support but couldn’t yet match Dietrich’s capabilities.
In the midst of this succession struggle, Dietrich had even fulfilled the elders’ request by retrieving Harpe.
Though the council hadn’t officially acknowledged his achievement, other nobles would see things differently.
Any well-established noble house would understand the immense value of “Harpe,” the sacred blade of the Delgado Dukedom—renowned as a lineage of master swordsmen.
The moment they saw Dietrich wielding Harpe, they’d instantly grasp the current state of the Delgado succession conflict.
That alone might win him new noble allies.
After all, any noble seeking to benefit from the military might of the Delgado Dukedom would keenly watch who ultimately inherits the title.
Delighted by Dietrich’s suggestion, I clapped my hands.
“Exactly! That’s it!”
Noticing his clear displeasure, I hurried to explain.
“Dietrich, think carefully. In the middle of a struggle for the dukedom, if you appear at the banquet holding the Delgado heirloom, what will other nobles assume about who holds the advantage in this succession battle?”
The light in Dietrich’s sea-green eyes dimmed calmly.
He’d instantly grasped my true intention.
“Even if the elders haven’t recognized it, word of mouth is what truly matters. If nobles believe the succession favors you, plenty will flock to our side.”
“So you’re saying—since everyone’s just watching and waiting—we should seize the initiative by revealing Harpe, showing we currently hold the upper hand in this succession struggle?”
“Precisely! That’s exactly it!”
Dietrich, seemingly not thinking my idea was entirely wrong, nodded with satisfaction.
“It makes sense.”
Straightening his posture as if finally hearing something interesting, he sat up from his slouch on the sofa.
‘It worked!’
My scheme had succeeded!
This was truly a two-birds-one-stone plan.
I’d get to enter the banquet and admire Nocturne Frey’s stunning face, while Dietrich would display Harpe to the nobles.
It’s the perfect win-win situation—what better time to use that saying?
‘I wonder if they have a local proverb here like “Mount Li’ena is no match for a good meal.”’
I’d have to ask Mari about it later, I thought, beaming with a wide, toothy grin.
“Well then? Are you convinced to bring Harpe to the banquet?”
“Better than leaving it uselessly locked away in this room.”
“Ha! And who was it that locked it away again?”
I could feel Dietrich glaring at me irritably, but I simply brushed it off!
‘Since he’s agreed to bring Harpe to the banquet, I can just quietly slip inside the sword.’
I was already so excited I couldn’t keep my feet still.
Having accomplished my goal, I jumped up from my seat.
Thankfully, convincing Dietrich had taken far less time than I’d feared.
Otherwise, rumors might have spread far and wide that I suffered from constipation.
“Thanks to you, I won’t be mistaken for someone with constipation.”
“Why are you talking nonsense again?”
“Well, I’ll be off now!”
Leaving behind a confused Dietrich, I hurried back to my duties.
That evening…
The mansion was in utter chaos with last-minute banquet preparations.
Servants and maids rushed food from the kitchen all the way to the west wing.
I quietly slipped away from my route and slipped back into the mansion.
Aside from the knights guarding the interior, the mansion was nearly empty.
After cautiously surveying the deserted halls, I headed straight for the second floor.
‘Dietrich shouldn’t be in his room, right?’
If that unlucky fellow happened to be in there, my entire plan would be completely ruined.
Tiptoeing carefully, I reached the door to Dietrich’s bedroom.
His room stood completely unguarded—eerily so.
It was almost excessive.
Knights were stationed everywhere—from the first to the third floor.
Yet around Dietrich’s second-floor room, there wasn’t a single servant or knight in sight.
It was as if Dietrich wasn’t even worth protecting.
This scene clearly revealed how Dietrich was truly treated within the Delgado mansion.
Though he was the eldest son locked in a battle for succession, he was practically an outcast within his own home.
“This is just too much.”
The Duchess’s scheme to isolate Dietrich was truly cruel.
He might act like it didn’t bother him—but still.
At least the absence of people made reaching Dietrich’s bedroom surprisingly easy.
Now only one thing remained.
Sneak into his room and hide myself inside Harpe.
How fortunate it was that I could freely enter and exit the sword at will.
If I had to rely on Dietrich to put me inside, attending the banquet today would’ve been impossible.
Fueled solely by the joy of soon seeing Nocturne Frey in person, I stepped into the bedroom—
“……Harpe.”
At the low, weighty voice, my body was instantly drawn into the sword.
‘Huh…?’
“Harpe.”
Before I could even regain my senses, my name was called again.
Pulled back out before I could grasp what was happening, I found Dietrich leaning crookedly against the wall.
“I knew it.”
A cold smirk played on his lips, and his sea-green eyes flashed sharply.
An icy aura swirled around him as he approached with slow, measured steps.
His chilling, piercing presence felt as if he might strangle me at any moment.
“So the bold little rat sneaking into my bedroom was you all along.”
“Well, Dietrich, I actually had something to—”
“What’s your real reason for wanting to go to the banquet?”
The moment I met Dietrich’s emotionless gaze, I realized.
Right now, I was in grave danger.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!
The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
