The Emperor choked up but corrected his thoughts.
“But, this time, it was a bit severe.”
It was a significant problem since it involved a child sponsored by his wife, not just anyone. It was almost a smear on Milia’s honor, even a level of disgrace.
Phillips took a deep breath and spoke words he had been holding back.
“I called to apologize to my wife.”
“Apologize…?”
Milia reacted unexpectedly to the unexpected word.
Although it had been over 20 years since she knew Phillips, he had never apologized for any woman-related issue.
“Yes. I was blinded by a misunderstanding, causing harm to your pride.”
“…….”
“Wife?”
Phillips observed his wife’s unexpected lack of reaction.
He expected her to be pleased with the apology, but her response was different from what he anticipated.
“Ah, I never dreamed you would apologize to me.”
“I feel genuinely sorry to you.”
The Emperor walked past the table and sat next to the Empress.
He took her hand and patted the back of it.
Such close contact had been so long that Milia didn’t know how to react.
“Pay more attention to the Empress from now on. Also, to Henry.”
Such sweet words were truly long overdue.
Milia blushed as if she had returned to the past.
“So, I made a big decision.”
Phillips raised his glass.
Milia expected to receive something as a gift of apology.
“I’m thinking of passing the throne to Nathaniel and going down to the south with you, Anais, and Henry. What do you think?”
Milia looked at Phillips’ face in confusion at the unprecedented declaration.
Who was passing the throne to whom?
“So, be prepared. I haven’t had a proper time with my wife all this time…”
The face of Phillips, who was talking in front of her, blurred.
“Empress?”
“Ah, no.”
Milia belatedly regained her composure and tried to put on a joyful expression.
She had to pretend to be happy as much as possible.
If she offended the Emperor’s feelings, he might suspect her.
“I didn’t mean anything. Thank you for thinking like this, Your Majesty.”
It was a perfect response to Phillips’ satisfaction. He explained various plans with a contented smile.
The Empress listened to the Emperor’s story, thinking of ways to delay the abdication.
“Oh, and… Nathaniel will catch Diana and send her this way.”
“I see.”
“If Diana, who committed treason, wants mercy, she should send her troops to the Empress.”
The Empress showed a subtle expression. What did he mean by handing over that woman to her?
“Your Majesty, the State Council meeting is not far away.”
At the words of the attendant, the Emperor turned Milia away.
“Oh, time has passed like this. Let’s talk more next time.”
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
She answered nonchalantly, but she was half out of her mind on the way back.
She had to somehow raise Henry to the position of successor.
“I need a way, I need a way.”
She returned to her room, anxiously pacing back and forth, clutching her head.
She didn’t have many pieces to play with at the moment.
She had been secretly raising soldiers nearby, but it wasn’t easy to move as the power of the family weakened.
‘Besides, they’re threatening me with the supply of magic stones from the Winter’s Duchy…’
Even the people who once supported her became passive, and the influence of the main family rapidly diminished.
Stress surged to her head. She swept away the things on the table in one breath.
“Empress!”
Startled by the loud noise, the chamberlain rushed in.
Broken flower vases, memos, ink bottles, and the like were scattered untidily on the red carpet.
She quickly grabbed the Empress behind her.
“Are you hurt anywhere?”
Before the words could finish, her body suddenly swayed heavily.
Lady Shiyang, with her eyes rolled back, tightly gripped the Empress’s shoulders. Millia trembled at the sight, feeling as if a demon had possessed her.
“What… what are you doing…!”
“I heard you have a desire, Your Majesty.”
The unfamiliar voice coming from her throat was the first time she had heard it.
“Wh-who are you!”
“I’ve come to help you, Empress. I’m the commander of the D.E.S. Knights, named Hary.”
An unexpected figure had come to find her.
Thanks to Nathaniel’s efforts for the past few days, a stable method of using Teresa’s power to turn demons into humans had been established.
“It’s not perfect, but by regularly absorbing power, you should be able to maintain a human appearance. To completely undo the magic, we may need to find more information in the royal city.”
He explained various magical aspects, but it seemed quite difficult for me to understand.
“Well, it’s a bit difficult.”
“…….”
At my honest reaction, Nathaniel remained silent.
Then, with a somewhat resigned look, he murmured.
“It can be difficult.”
Feeling sorry for no reason, I spoke while clasping my fists to his arms.
“Nathaniel seems to really like magic.”
“I don’t dislike it. I like researching and applying it.”
“Well, then, how about talking to someone who knows more about magic than I do?”
Even if he told interesting stories, it was just a difficult class for me.
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
