Conrad frowned, looking utterly baffled. Over his face, Ian’s delighted expression suddenly flashed in my mind—the one he’d worn when I’d offered to spar with him.

What if Ian had been here right now? Just imagining his reaction made me want to laugh for some reason.

“Do I look scared to you right now? I’m merely showing consideration for you.”

“Oh, consideration?”

“Fine. Then let’s agree not to show each other any consideration during the duel.”

Conrad thumped his chest in exasperation as he spoke.

“I have no intention of dueling you…”

“Official duels should be held in the training grounds, but since you clearly don’t intend to go that far, I suppose there’s no helping it.”

As I lightly picked up the sword I’d planted in the ground, Conrad raised both hands, signaling he had no intention of fighting.

“You’re really going to duel me? Just what gives you such confidence?”
