“A red scorpion, I see.”

Rinat approached my side and muttered in an unusually grim voice. Over him, Edwin’s urgent shout rang out.

“The red scorpion’s weak point is the exoskeleton between its head and chest! Aim for that spot!”

Striking the exoskeleton between head and chest meant attacking from a higher position, which wouldn’t be easy. The danger if the attack failed was obvious without needing to be stated.

Having already scanned the knights, who had paired off into groups of five, I gave orders to Vanessa, Edwin, and Oliver—who belonged to no group—to jointly attack the red scorpion’s exoskeleton.

That left only Rinat and me.

Just then, one of the red scorpions moved first, its pincers clicking menacingly. As the knights swiftly moved to block the pincers, Vanessa stepped forward.

Vanessa leapt from her spot, driving her sword halfway into the space between the scorpion’s head and chest.

The scorpion let out an eerie sound, as if trying to shake off the blade blocking its right pincer. The clattering noise echoed chillingly through the air.

“We can’t let it move its pincers!”

At Edwin’s shout, the knights blocking the right pincer pressed down harder with their swords. But in an instant, the scorpion shook them off and raised its left pincer high instead.

A shadow fell over Vanessa’s head just as she barely managed to pull her sword free from the scorpion’s body. Ignoring the voices calling out her name from all around, I rushed forward.

A loud thud immediately followed. It was the sound of the massive red scorpion’s body toppling backward.

“Commander’s sword… Isn’t that aura?”

“Rosebelia, you…”
