Agnes gently shook her head.

Passing through the main hall, he encountered the head maid briskly walking with a tray holding a teacup, and upon hearing that Agnes was still awake, he went directly to the study.

Rinat glanced around the warmly lit study and met Agnes’s gaze. He stared intently at her bloodshot eyes, then cast a quick glance at the teacup sitting on the table.

‘Drinking lavender tea, known for promoting sleep, at this hour…’

“Since when have you been suffering from insomnia, Mother?”

Guessing that one of those worries was himself, Rinat’s expression darkened.

“I pay far more attention to you all than you think. Both Daisy and you—I naturally notice whenever your behavior differs from usual.”

Agnes finished speaking and gave a gentle smile. Though it was as kind as ever, Rinat couldn’t bring himself to smile back.

“As of today, I’ve stepped down from guarding Lady Rosebelia. So there’s no need to look for a marriage prospect for me. I won’t enter into a political marriage.”

“Rinat, I never meant to pressure you like that…”
