Evelyn quietly observed Ian as he took a seat opposite her. His tall, sturdy frame, upright posture, clear, bright eyes, and the easy smile playing at his lips—there wasn’t a single thing about him she found appealing.

Adding to her simmering irritation was the fact that he’d just returned from the viscount’s domain, where the monster had appeared, yet showed no sign of fatigue whatsoever. After all, Ian before her was the very embodiment of what she had once demanded of Enoch.

“I came to see Her Majesty first this time, hoping to spare you the trouble—but perhaps I’ve done something unnecessary after all.”

“Not at all, Your Highness. I’m the one who should thank you for coming here yourself.”

Evelyn concealed a sneer beneath her gentle smile. There was no way Ian had come to the reception room simply out of genuine concern for her well-being.

‘He must have a purpose for visiting.’

But it hardly mattered. Whatever intentions Ian harbored would soon vanish along with his life.

She glanced briefly at the empty table, then gestured softly toward Sophia.

“Sophia, didn’t we receive some tea recently from the Riley Family?”

“Yes, Your Majesty. Shall I bring it out?”

Though Sophia’s voice remained calm, her eyes trembled faintly. Evelyn’s gaze sharpened instantly as she caught that subtle flicker of unease.
