I Became The Ex-Wife Of A Regretful Male Lead (2 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 7
“Huh? No! What are you talking about…?!”
Barhan jumped in surprise and vigorously shook his head. Judging by his reaction, he didn’t seem to be lying.
“Then what is it? Are we at war? Or is a horde of monsters pouring in? Or is the Imperial Palace pecking away at us? Is there some kind of plague spreading through the territory?”
“None of those. The North is perfectly peaceful right now.”
Then, why in the world?!
“Then why does my husband keep working overtime every single night?!”
I slammed my fists on the desk and poured out my frustration.
The day after I found out he came home at 4 a.m.,
I stayed awake all night, determined to uphold marital loyalty and wait for Dante.
But eventually, around 3:30 a.m., I succumbed to sleepiness.
When I opened my eyes, the sun was already high in the sky, and the spot beside me was completely empty.
From the next day onward, I stopped bothering to wait for him.
He’d worked overtime for two consecutive days—I figured he’d surely come home early and sleep tonight.
Yet, at 4 a.m.,
I heard the door open and close. The bed shifted slightly, and I woke up.
Apparently, after worrying about Dante for two days straight, my body had trained itself to wake at the slightest disturbance.
…Well, there’s nothing I can do about it.
I’d woken up from sleep, but Dante had just come back from work.
And before I could even say a word to him, Dante crawled into bed and immediately passed out.
However, the real problem was that this became routine.
The next day too.
And the day after that.
At 4 a.m.
As if it were his official bedtime, Dante would sneak into bed at dawn, and I’d wake up.
For a grown adult in this new country—someone used to sleeping early and waking up late—this was nothing short of torture.
Frustrated and exhausted, I huffed and glared again at Barhan.
“Barhan, what exactly is my husband doing every night? Do you happen to know?”
“Well… I’m not sure. Lately, there shouldn’t be anything urgent requiring his attention…”
Barhan tilted his head, trailing off uncertainly.
Then this is even stranger.
Why stay up late if there’s nothing urgent? Sneaking in quietly at 4 a.m., so exhausted he collapses instantly into sleep?
There’s no choice.
If even Barhan—his closest aide—doesn’t know the reason, I’ll have to ask Dante himself.
I’ll observe one more day. If he comes home at 4 a.m. again tonight, I’ll confront him directly tomorrow.
[This is the timeline separator]That night.
I dreamed, “Please water the second flower.”
It was a scene where the male lead Dante and the female lead Flora both engaged in mutual misunderstandings.
Every night, Flora stayed wide awake, waiting for Dante to enter their bedroom, and Dante only returned to the room at dawn each day.
Yet timid Flora never dared ask Dante, “Why do you sleep at dawn?” Instead, she kept digging herself deeper: “Maybe he doesn’t like me… Maybe he doesn’t want to sleep with me… That’s why he always comes back so late…”
Truly, it was the mindset of a master at self-sabotage.
But sometimes, perfect self-sabotage can become the key.
After digging and digging and digging, Flora had somehow completed an underground shelter in no time—and finally, unable to contain her sorrow and guilt any longer, she exploded.
〈Is it because of me that you can’t sleep?〉
〈…Huh?〉
〈It’s uncomfortable for you to sleep in the same bed as me, isn’t it? You dislike it, right? That’s why you always come in at dawn—isn’t that right?〉
Dante hesitated, unable to give Flora—now tearfully trembling—a proper answer.
I remember how infuriating it was to watch that scene.
He should’ve answered quickly and clearly!
The longer someone delays their reply, the more you think, “Look at this guy!”—that’s just human nature.

Ugh! These frustrating, dense sweet potatoes! Sweet potato artisans! Perfectly ripe chestnut sweet potatoes!
Because of Dante’s silence and lack of response, Flora ended up deeply hurt—and with tears welling in her eyes, she said,
〈…Maybe it’d be better if we slept in separate rooms.〉
Surprisingly, the words “from you, Duke,” were omitted afterward.
Ha ha. Why do main leads always omit crucial lines, piling up unnecessary misunderstandings?
They strike, then hit back.
Hit back, then strike again.
Between them, unintentionally landing counter-punches, readers were the only ones dying slowly.
In the end, did they actually sleep in separate rooms? No, they didn’t.
Thanks to a peculiar tradition in the North.
According to Northern custom, married couples had to share a bed for at least one full year—
except under unavoidable circumstances like reconnaissance missions.
Whether this odd tradition was part of the author’s grand plan to keep the frustratingly dense leads together, or part of the Imperial Palace’s scheme driven by their obsession with producing heirs from the Richter lineage—
either way, someone’s grand design was clearly at play, forcing the two to sleep in the same bed while continuously misunderstanding each other.
…Wait, but that’s not the point right now.
What truly mattered was realizing that Dante’s 4 a.m. bedtime routine would continue even after our divorce—carrying over into his future marriage with the female lead.
Shocked by this revelation, I clutched my head and cried out,
“So why on earth does he sleep so late?!”
Just then—
the scene swiftly shifted, and the narrative unfolded from Dante’s perspective.
It began with the sight of my sleeping face.
Huh? Me?
His mind was filled entirely with images of me looking afraid.
Every time Dante slipped into bed, I’d hold my breath, curl up tightly, and pretend to sleep while facing away from him.
Silently staring at my back, Dante would close his eyes far away from me.
But neither of us could fall asleep for a long time.
From then on, Dante deliberately spent his nights alone in his study.
〈She should be asleep by now.〉
And only when he was certain I’d fallen deeply asleep—around 4 a.m.—would he carefully enter the bedroom and close his eyes.
He even left the room early in the morning so I wouldn’t wake up startled by his presence.
“…Idiot.”
I muttered blankly.
Idiot, fool.
He looked fierce with that face and muscles, yet his heart was so gentle and kind.
How could someone be this soft, like silken tofu?
A marshmallow? Crispy outside, meltingly tender inside?!
It felt as if a massive boulder had just slammed onto my chest.
I’d assumed Dante was the reason I couldn’t sleep—but it turned out to be the complete opposite.
Because of me, Dante had given up on sleep. My past self, who treated him like a monster and feared him, had tormented him deeply.
I let out a deep sigh—and my eyes snapped open.
It was pitch black all around, and moonlight seeped through the window.
“…What time is it now?”
Groggily checking the clock, I saw it was 3 a.m.
As expected, the spot beside me was empty.
Staring dazedly at the empty space, I suddenly sat bolt upright.
Now that I knew the truth, I couldn’t just stay put.
True, my past self would’ve panicked at the mere shadow of Dante.
But that wasn’t me anymore.
Now I knew he was like a marshmallow—crispy on the outside, but filled inside with soft, moist chocolate.
Honestly, even if Grandpa Dante slept beside me, I wouldn’t care…

…Wait, actually, that might be a bit too much.
Anyway!
Like a furious bull spotting a red cloth, I snorted and charged straight ahead.
My destination: Dante’s study, where he was surely wasting the night away with nothing to do.
[This is the timeline separator]Inside the dark study,
Dante lay slumped in his chair, reading a book.
Well, to be precise—he wasn’t really reading; it was more like he’d simply left it open.
His drowsy eyes couldn’t properly focus on any of the words.
Rereading the same passage for the twelfth time, Dante furrowed his brow and mumbled,
“…Who’s Ricardo again?”
Ah, the protagonist.
With a sigh, his large hand closed the book. After all, even if he kept reading, nothing would register anyway.
His tired blue eyes briefly scanned the window outside, then checked the clock.
3:05 a.m.
Should I go to bed a bit earlier tonight?
For just a moment, he wavered under the overwhelming drowsiness, then ran a hand over his face and shook his head, leaning back against the chair.
If I go too early, I might just wake her up.
He didn’t want his wife losing sleep because of him.
Of course, he did think that maybe now—she wouldn’t find it uncomfortable to sleep beside him anymore.
〈I think I might actually have a talent for growing herbs.〉
〈Your Grace, did you know wild hairgrass grows well in the North? You didn’t, right? Well, I knew!〉
〈Come eat already! I’m doing this so we can both live well, you know.〉
There was no trace of her old fear in the way Serphina treated him now.
But… what if her true feelings were still hidden?
People often pretend affection or peace surprisingly well—
so convincingly, for so long, that no one ever notices.
So, better safe than sorry.
Besides, even if he lay down earlier, he likely wouldn’t fall into proper sleep anyway.
Ever since his brother’s death, nightmares had constantly gripped his throat.
〈I’m sorry, Dante.〉
Alongside that vivid voice in his mind,
Dante let out a bitter smile, closed his eyes, and began to snore.
Even if he couldn’t truly sleep, just pretending like this helped relieve some of his exhaustion…
Boom!
“Your Grace!”
His exhaustion didn’t fade—in fact, his heart nearly dropped into his stomach.
Startled by the sudden, uninvited guest, Dante’s eyes shot open, and he jumped to his feet.
Then, he blinked in disbelief.
“…My Lady?”
“Yes! Your wife—who’s been waiting alone all night again.”
At his stunned call, Serphina answered sharply and strode in with dignified confidence.
She swept her gaze around the room,
especially inspecting the desk carefully,
just in case he was actually doing real work.
But the only thing on the desk was a closed book.
Relieved, Serphina marched straight toward Dante.
“Am I interrupting anything?”
“No.”
“So that means you don’t have anything to do right now—correct?”

“Well, I suppose…”
“Oh, perfect! Then you can go to sleep.”
“Huh?”
Dante, unable to keep up with the sudden shift, repeated in confusion.
Grinning widely enough to show her teeth, Serphina reached out and firmly grabbed Dante’s arm.
“Let’s go—sleep with me, Your Grace.”

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
