The reason I’d started confessing was impulsive.

It was Serphina herself who had made me realize a fear I hadn’t even known I had.

Only after her comfort did I finally understand that I’d been inwardly wounded all along.

“My avoidance created this situation. I should’ve personally inspected the territory—checked whether things were running properly or if any part was deteriorating. But I turned away simply because I was afraid of others’ gazes.”

Propping her chin in one hand, Serphina twirled her teacup lightly with the other.

“If the whole world were out to grate me into pieces, I’d probably want to hide too. Now, here’s a question: there’s a majority condemning one person, and there’s someone hiding because they fear that condemnation. Who’s really in the wrong?”
