“Look, there’s a name written here.”

Riche rose from her desk.

She walked over to Pythons, took the box, and opened it to reveal a golden badge.

Riche checked the name engraved on the badge.

Iandwein Gerwer.

“Right.”

It was the badge awarded to the winner of the annual spring Hunt Festival.

Ian had won it this past spring.

Since the Rodwick and Hibetsman families showed little interest in the Hunt Festival, the contest had come down to Duke Serdia and Ian.

After a fierce battle, Ian emerged victorious. Duke Serdia watched bitterly as Ian wore the victor’s crown at the subsequent Founding Festival.

Later, when Riche asked why he’d been so eager to win,

“I heard you liked the cookies given as the prize,”

Ian had replied.

It was news to Riche herself.
