Jed pulled Deon away from the bed.

From that day on, the single chair placed against the wall became Deon’s usual seat—a spot where he could clearly see Riche lying in bed.

Even while smelling the breath of Zikbert and the others, Deon never left the room where Riche was.

“I nearly died once, but I survived.”

“…How did you survive?”

“I don’t know. Maybe because I prayed to the gods?”

“The gods?”

“Yeah. I asked them to stop the pain.”

Surely, hadn’t Riche told him in the monster forest that she’d almost died, but the gods saved her?
