I walked slowly beneath the orange-tinted sky. The air felt slightly cool, but since I’d just come out from being indoors the whole time, it didn’t feel particularly cold.

Instead, my mood felt strange.

I was a little afraid, somewhat angry in certain ways, and at the same time felt as though a burden had been placed on my shoulders—but also, oddly enough, slightly uplifted. I stared blankly ahead and walked mechanically. Then, just as I arrived near the disciples’ quarters of the Edae Sect—

I came face to face with Hahyeon, who seemed to be heading toward the dormitory just like me.

“Oh.”

For some reason, it felt as though I hadn’t seen Hahyeon in ages—even though we’d been traveling together just a few shichen ago.

Come to think of it, is he alright?

At that sudden thought, I stopped right where I stood. Earlier, Master had said he was checking on him—and that surely wasn’t just to ask whether he’d returned safely.

Because of the backlight and Hahyeon’s much taller stature, his expression wasn’t clearly visible. I slowly took a few more steps toward him.

‘I should’ve asked earlier if he was alright.’

Only now did this thought occur to me.

I’d been so lost in my own thoughts that I’d pushed aside everything truly important. Especially since Hahyeon and I had been together the entire way back—I’d certainly had ample time to exchange even just a word or two.

‘But regretting it now won’t change anything.’
