“I’m fine. Calm down.”

“Then why do you look like that?”

Ha Hyun, his eyebrows narrowed, asked one question after another.

“You mentioned there was a problem earlier. You said you’d tell me later. Is this what you meant?”

“Ah, yes. That’s right, so…”

I began to organize my thoughts. As I calmed down, a fact I had momentarily forgotten flashed back into my mind. Specifically, whenever something strange occurs in this world…

‘Firstly, you can suspect magic.’

Although various factions like Hwasan and others often use magic, it mostly feels like it has been refined once through the use of various tools like talismans.

In contrast, the Sapa do not use any tools.

One observation came to mind when I was learning how to counter the magic they use. In the same context as thinking a formation is similar to a magic circle, the more you know, the more it resembles magic commonly seen in Western fantasy novels.

It’s extremely diverse, talent is needed, and the same goes for large-scale magic that not just anyone can use.

And… it conveniently provides a causal link to the occurrence of strange events.

‘It’s okay to think more broadly.’

Three of us met one person, and among the three, only one saw another face of the person they met.

It doesn’t make logical sense, but what if you insert magic into this weak logic?

‘That eldest son.’

Would it be too far-fetched to think that he did something?

But today, the person who sat facing the three of us for the longest time was none other than him.

Changing my line of thought made the eldest son’s complexion, which had worsened after Yu Sung Sah Baek set up the formation, appear suspicious. Perhaps there’s an inexplicable reason why I felt like I was annoying him.

A single doubt began to dig into my mind.

‘What if he isn’t the real eldest son?’

If he were a shaman mimicking the eldest son.

If I was the only one not affected by the magic and thus saw his real face?

“…Let’s go to Sah Baek.”

“Huh?”

“To Yu Sung Sah Baek. We’ll talk there. This isn’t something we can solve by talking among ourselves. Even if Sah Baek finds it strange, we should at least mention it. Let’s go.”

I grabbed his arm without waiting for an answer and headed for the door. Seeing my urgency, Ha Hyun seemed to go along for now.

But the moment we fully stepped out of the room.

Without even needing to search, we ran directly into a perplexed Yu Sung Sah Baek standing in the middle of the corridor.

“Sah Baek?”

“Ha Heun? Ha Hyun?”
Panicked, I called out to Sahbaek, who looked just as bewildered as he called out to us. For a few seconds, we blankly stared at each other until Sahbaek was the first to come to his senses.

“This is not the time for this.”

He quickly approached us.

“Someone has tampered with the formation.”

“Huh?”

“Good timing. I’ll go ahead and check it out. Yeo Heun, wake Ha Jin and follow me. Ha Hyun, summon Commander Yubaek and go with him to the hall where Danju’s children are staying. Guard that place.”

He spit out his words in rapid succession and was the first to run out of the hall.

Urgency is usually contagious. Ha Hyun and I briefly locked eyes, then quickly began to act according to Sahbaek’s instructions.

While Ha Hyun went to find Yubaek, Sahja, sensing that there was a problem with the formation like Yuseong Sahbaek, ran out into the hallway.

Thanks to that, I didn’t need to explain much. I grabbed my sword and immediately chased after Sahja with it.

Outside, the sun had fully set, and the moon had risen.

Aside from the sporadically illuminated firelight, in the dark courtyard, Yuseong Sahbaek was standing a little distance away from the hall, eyes closed.

He seemed to be sensing where the formation had been disrupted.

As we approached, he opened his eyes and gestured toward the west.

“It’s there. Let’s go.”

As I followed Sahbaek, I opened my mouth, relieved.

“Sahbaek, Sahja! I had something to tell you. The Saint’s eldest son, Jangnam, who I met today, seems suspicious!”

“What? Speak up!”

As we ran, I briefly conveyed to Yubaek Sahbaek and Ha Hyun that among the three of us, only I saw Jangnam’s face as someone else’s.

I also mentioned that I didn’t talk to anyone else because it seemed like I would be interfering in someone else’s family matters since he didn’t look like his family. I also added some of my personal speculations, as well as some names of soul-absorbing techniques that seemed relevant.

‘I’m glad I don’t have to explain what those are in detail.’

Thanks to both of them being from Jemungak, specializing in spell research, they seemed to completely understand what I had gone through and what I wanted to explain.

“Heunah.”

Sahja, running beside me, looked at me with a serious face.

“Maybe it’s not that you weren’t affected by the spell! Maybe you were the only one affected by it!”

“What?”
I widened my eyes. Sa-Baek, who had been leading the way, also agreed with Sa-Je’s words.
