“You are no longer my father. Nor are you Yul’s grandfather.”

Yong Hoon, who had kept silent the entire time, now spoke as though plunging a dagger into Kyo Hwan’s back as the latter turned away.

“You’d best stop coming to see our Se In as well.”

Kyo Hwan’s vision blurred with fury, his reason fading fast.

“No. You’re no longer Se In’s father. If you truly were her father, you couldn’t possibly treat Yul and me like this!”

Kyo Hwan shouted in anger, but Yong Hoon, as usual, showed no sign of disturbance and simply entered the password into the door lock at the gate.

“If you have something to say, come inside and say it. Don’t make a scene in the neighborhood.”

*Beep-beep.* The moment the gate opened, Kyo Hwan stormed after Yong Hoon as if ready to kill him.

Hanging by the front door, beneath the ceiling light, was a shopping bag labeled with Soon Hye’s side-dish shop.

‘Haengbok Banchan.’

She’d tried discarding the food, tried shouting—but rain or snow, not a single day had passed since her daughter left that Soon Hye hadn’t come to see Yong Hoon.

‘Don’t misunderstand—I’m not doing this hoping for mercy or forgiveness. My son is already dead; what reason would I have to beg for leniency? There’s no trial, no punishment to serve. I just need to do this to bear it myself. I heard you, too, lost your wife and raised your child alone.’

Frustrated by Soon Hye’s daily deliveries of fresh side dishes, Yong Hoon once threw chicken porridge at her and stomped on the containers, shattering them.

Yet Soon Hye cleaned up the meat stuck to the floor and the broken containers as if nothing had happened and returned the next day with a fresh lunch box filled with new side dishes.
