Hyo Jin leaves the sarangchae, crosses the garden, and heads toward the haengnangchae where the lodging is.

In the garden covered with fallen leaves, Kyo Hwan stands motionless.

Perhaps the shock from earlier still hasn’t faded; those shoulders that seemed like they could bear Mount Tai without flinching now looked as if they might collapse at the mere fall of a leaf.

“It must feel a bit awkward since it’s still the first time.”

Hyo Jin approached him, making her presence known with her footsteps.

“Ah, yes…….”

Even though Kyo Hwan knew it was greed, he couldn’t hide the emptiness in his heart.

“You’ll get used to it as time passes, so don’t be too disappointed.”

Kyo Hwan nodded as if the words weren’t much comfort, then turned to leave, but his eyes fell on the shopping bag in his hand.

“Ah, would you like to have this?”

The sweet scent of orange and vanilla wafted all the way to where Hyo Jin was standing.

“I thought Yul would like it since it’s the snack his mom loved when she was pregnant with him. Is it because he’s a boy?”

Seeing him sigh as if he’d made a painful mistake, Hyo Jin felt almost heartbroken.

“Then why don’t you have it, Father? When you’re feeling down, warm drinks and something sweet really lift your mood.”

“Ah, I don’t really like sweet things.”
