“Wow. Sir. Is it really annoying?”
His face was smiling, but…
“Dr. Bong told me to buy snacks that Seung Yul would like when she gets off work. Do you have any good ideas?”
“What?”
“Seung Yul, that kid, he hasn’t eaten chicken since Puffy died. But pizza seems a bit heavy for a snack. Don’t you have any delicious desserts?”
Always looking for me at times like this.
“Sir?”
“……?”
“I’ve been watching you since my military days. Lately, you’ve been really strange.”
Just yesterday, he was sitting lost as if he had embraced the darkness of the world. Today, he was grinning such a magnificent smile that the female office workers in the secretary’s office were falling over.

“Just tell me a little.”
People change when they are about to die.
“Don’t be difficult. Just open up to me. What do we have to hide from each other?”
“What?”
Gyo Hwan frowned and flinched back.
“Sir, are you perhaps……”
Team leader Nam, who was close enough to bump lips, covered his ear with his hand and whispered.
“……on borrowed time?”
Ha, Gyo Hwan burst into laughter. At the same time, the elevator’s overdue alarm sounded as if urging.
“Ah, I’m going.”

Even laughing out loud.
“Did you just laugh?”
Darth Vader of XTowers is going out to eat with a friend? Why is he so sweet? Did he develop diabetes?
“Hey, secretary, go in and check the health check results of the president right now.”
Team leader Nam, who had returned to the secretary’s office, gave the order.
“There’s nothing wrong?”
The female secretary who had opened the document said.
“Then, you should get it again.”
On borrowed time, at this stage.
Forest Park.

Gyo Hwan, who was driving into the driveway, saw Seung Yul walking in the garden with Hyo Jin and rolled down the car window.
“Yul!”
“Dad!”
Seung Yul handed the parking over to the driver, and greeted Gyo Hwan, who was walking over, by bringing his two hands together in front of his belly button.
“Are you back?”
Expecting him to rush over and hug him, Gyo Hwan, who had spread out his arms holding shopping bags, found himself in an awkward posture.
“What are you doing?”
Feeling awkward, Gyo Hwan sat as if doing a national gymnastics routine, then stood up and punched his leg.
“Um, suddenly got a cramp in my leg.”
Hyo Jin, who was standing next to the child, curled her lips as if holding back a sneer.

“Did you have a good time at school?”
“Yes.”
“Anything difficult while studying?”
“……?”
“Dad can help with difficult problems.”
“It’s okay. I have eleven teachers, you know?”
To the baby who didn’t feel the absence of a father at all, Gyo Hwan proceeded with a second jest.
“Weren’t you missing your dad while studying at school?”
“……?”
“Dad got scolded because he missed Yul.”

“Why? We’ll see each other at home when it’s over anyway.”
Not a single word like that even when living apart in Singapore.
“On the way here, I was thinking about Yul and bought this, do you want to eat macarons?”
Gyo Hwan, whose eyes met Hyo Jin’s, threw out the cleverly prepared line like shaking a rattle in front of a crying child.
“I think it would be super delicious if I eat it with Yul.”
Super delicious?
Hyo Jin, who was standing next to him, couldn’t lift her head due to his awkward acting.
“I, went to the dentist today?”
“Dentist?”
“The dentist said not to eat sweets because I have a cavity.”

“Ah……”
Gyo Hwan looked at Hyo Jin as if protesting.
“You didn’t say anything about that?”
You should tell me in advance if something like that happens.
“Did you buy it because the teacher told you to?”
Seung Yul’s eyes widened.
He had said that it would be super delicious if they ate it together.
“I’m going to go in and wash up now.”
He was told to spend an hour alone, but within 5 minutes, all the efforts he had been ruminating over during his working hours had come to naught.
“Should we take a bath together?”

“Huh? You mean we should get naked and take a bath together?”
He looked as repulsed as if he had been told to put an alligator in the bathtub.
“When dad washes your hair, he’ll make sure no bubbles get in your eyes.”
Seung Yul furrowed his brows.
“Dad. I’m nine years old now.”
“So?”
“I’ve grown up now.”
Ah, shucks. I’m not even a firstgrader. Do I have to be treated like this by my dad?
“Oh, really?”
He felt like he would be hit if he insisted any more.

“I’m sorry. Dad didn’t know?”
No matter how close he tried to get, he wouldn’t let him in.
“Dad, aren’t you busy?”
I need to go up and do my homework, why is he being so annoying?
“Right, Yul. Dad’s been thinking, how about inviting friends over for a party?”
Gyo Hwan pulled out his last resort.
“You haven’t been transferred long. It would be a good chance to get closer with your friends. Dad wants to know who the friends are that you study with at school.”
His heart was pounding as if he was waiting for an answer after confessing.
“What about the teacher then?”
“Huh?”

Why suddenly about the teacher?
“If my friends come to the house, they will know the teacher is not my mother.”
When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!
The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:

In this matriarchal society, Rong Xiu had risen to become the chairman of a powerful healthcare conglomerate, breaking through gender prejudices. But for the first time, he willingly stepped into the shadows as the other man, disregarding his friends’ warnings to become her secret lover.
