Sir Joyce, upon hearing the Duke say his “condition wasn’t good,” leapt out of the carriage as if someone had pressed a button and, in less than five minutes, pulled the Duke out and escorted him into an inn room.

Escorted him? No, to be precise, it was closer to having thrown him in.

Of course, neither by status nor physical possibility had Sir Joyce actually exerted force on the Duke. Yet the Duke followed Sir Joyce’s lead without a single word of protest and charged straight into the inn room.

Consequently, Chloe was left completely alone in the carriage and had to enter the inn belatedly, waiting at the counter for Sir Joyce to come back down.

Since the Duke had decided to stay here, she also needed to secure a room—but it felt uncomfortable to ask for one without even seeking the innkeeper’s permission.

Naturally, she couldn’t possibly share a room with either the innkeeper or a noble like Sir Joyce, so she would have to book her own room separately.

Since she was on duty attending to her master, her lodging should rightly be arranged by him. Yet with neither the master present nor his permission granted, it was hard to simply say, “Give me a room.”

Had she been sitting on the sofa in front of the counter for about an hour?

Suddenly, a loud thudding sound came from the stairs, and Sir Joyce came rushing down.

“Sir Joyce?”

When Chloe called out to him, Sir Joyce finally seemed to remember her presence and let out a sharp “Ah!”

“You! Um… I need to go somewhere quickly now, so please stay and keep an eye on the Duke for me. Actually—no, my room is right next to the Duke’s, so just wait there and rush over immediately if he calls for me.”

“Calls for you?”

“Well… I mean if the Duke summons me! Anyway!”

“Oh, alright.”
