How to Turn a Kind Savior into an Emperor (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 12
He was horrified by his own powerlessness and couldn’t sleep at night, afraid of time dragging on so slowly.
Just then, Léna spat at Ines again. Ines swiftly wiped the spit off with her palm and rubbed it back onto Léna’s face.
“Why, are you that scared?”
“…….”
“But don’t worry too much. You’ll go mad soon enough anyway.”
At that moment, a knight approached her, having found Ines’s handkerchief.
“Thank you.”
Noah squeezed his eyes shut at the sight of her gently smiling at the knight. He simply couldn’t fully accept this situation. What on earth was he witnessing?
“Sir Knight, could you please seat this person back in the chair?”
The knight, who hadn’t seen any of what had just happened, blushed slightly at Ines’s soft request and beautiful smile.
Ines, having wiped her palm on her handkerchief, sat down again facing Léna.
“So then, Léna—poor Léna Marière—pull yourself together and face reality.”
Léna, her arms bound by rope, writhed in apparent agony, twisting her whole body.
“My name is Ines Swenden. Remember it well. I won’t tell you everything will be fine if you just listen to me—that wouldn’t be true. But if things continue like this, everything you just heard will become your reality.”
Léna couldn’t utter a word, only heaving her chest and exhaling short, ragged breaths.
“So take Prince Carson’s hand. Confess everything truthfully to him and beg for mercy. That’s the only way you and your loved ones will survive.”
Ines’s face shone with conviction as she declared that obeying him was Léna’s sole remaining hope. Ines rose lightly from her seat and then smiled faintly at Noah.
“It’s best we go now.”
Noah led her away without a word.
After Ines departed for the Swenden estate, Noah headed to Carson’s office to report. Yet, even as he stood before the door, he struggled to decide how to begin or what to say first.
“Your Highness.”
“Don’t call me that.”
Carson replied without even lifting his head toward Noah’s direction.
“Yes, my lord.”
After Noah’s reply, a long silence passed until Carson finally looked up from his documents and met Noah’s gaze.
“What is it?”
“Well…”
Carson thought Noah’s behavior was unusually odd. Though he hadn’t known him long, Noah was typically quick-witted and level-headed.
“Lady Swenden has left the estate.”
Carson said nothing, only staring fixedly at Noah.
“And Léna Marière has sent word that she intends to reveal everything.”
Carson doubted his own ears. This was the same woman who, despite being locked in a room and interrogated all day for the past week, had refused to say a word.
Ever since Léna had been captured, the security corps had persistently pressured Carson to hand her over to them.
He had intended to keep her as long as possible to uncover whoever was behind this, but holding her any longer had become impossible.
Carson couldn’t personally resort to torture, but things would be different once she was in the security corps’ hands.
The Empress’s influence reached every corner of the empire.
If the security corps deliberately concealed the truth and set up a new scheme, Carson would have no way of finding out. Yet just moments ago, Ines had met her—and Léna had finally spoken.
“What did the two of them talk about?”
“Well…”
“Noah.”
“There was nothing special. Just… things we already knew…”
Noah was at a loss for how to relay this. True to his words, Lady Swenden hadn’t said anything extraordinary to Léna. She had merely told her about Romfield’s notorious reputation and grim rumors.
“What do you mean, ‘things we already knew’?”
“We talked about Romfield.”
“Romfield?”
“Yes—she said if she stayed silent, she’d be sent to Romfield… Though I’ve told her that myself several times already.”
As he spoke, Noah sank into thought again.
“Noah, what exactly are you getting at?”
“Your Highness, what I mean is… Léna Marière spat at Lady Swenden…”
“She spat? And you just stood there watching?”

“I told a knight to bring a handkerchief. Anyway, it was Lady Swenden’s terrifying words that made the woman change her mind.”
The more he heard, the more baffled Carson became, and he rose from his seat.
“Lead the way. I’ll meet her myself.”
“And…”
At these next words, Carson turned to look at Noah.
“Her Highness escorted Lady Swenden.”
“Louie did?”
“Yes, she came all the way to where the carriage was waiting.”
For the past few days, Loujiann had barely moved from her room, still shaken by the shock of that day. She would smile when Carson visited, but it was clear her nerves hadn’t settled yet.
Yet that girl had personally left her room to see that woman off.
“What… did they talk about?”
“They embraced deeply without exchanging many words and parted right away.”
“Does that even make sense?”
Noah knew how strange his own words sounded, but that was all he’d seen—so it couldn’t be nonsense.
When Noah remained silent, Carson roughly ran his fingers through his hair. Instead of pressing Noah further, he hurried off to meet Léna.
The moment Léna saw Carson enter the room, she rushed to him and knelt. Her arms were still bound. Bowing her head before his feet, she rubbed her cheek and lips against his shoes, clinging desperately.
“Your Highness, I’ll tell you everything—just please, please save Jason, save Jason!”
“Jason?”
“He’s my three-year-old son. Count Graeham is holding him. If you save him, I’ll testify to everything truthfully.”
At the mention of Count Graeham’s name, Carson let out a bitter smile. Of course, he had more than a guess about who was behind this. Yet throughout all these years, the Empress had committed countless crimes without ever leaving a single piece of evidence or witness.
“Alright. If Graeham hasn’t already killed your son, I’ll save him.”
Léna lifted her head in surprise. This wasn’t the kind of mercy one would expect from the man who’d tried to kill her brother.
“Is that truly your word?”
“Yes. Do you know where the child is?”
“I don’t know exactly. I only know the Count has hidden him in someone’s house.”
“What does the child look like?”
“He has dark brown hair and blue eyes. There’s a scar beneath his left ear, about two finger-widths long.”
“And the child’s father?”
“…He’s dead.”
According to their investigation, she had no husband. He didn’t know her full story, but it was likely Count Graeham had used a woman with no connections to him as a tool for his crime.
“Léna Marière.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
“The woman you met today.”
At the mention of Ines, Léna’s body flinched.
“Did you know her?”
Léna stared blankly at Carson, as if she’d never even considered that possibility.
“Ines Swenden…?”
“Yes.”
Léna slowly shook her head.
“I’ve never seen her before.”
“Are you certain?”
“Yes. I’m sure I first saw her in that square. But… somehow, she seemed to know me.”
Carson realized she’d felt the same strange impression he had—but he had no desire to share any sense of kinship with her.
“Stay here quietly and wait.”
“Yes, yes! If you save my child, I’ll do anything.”
“And… forget that woman’s name.”
As Carson left the room, he quietly summoned several knights and ordered them to find the boy named Jason. Now that they knew Count Graeham was hiding him, locating the child shouldn’t be too difficult.
Back in his office, Carson began mentally piecing together everything that had happened.
If Count Graeham was behind this incident, then the Empress was surely pulling the strings behind him. But without saving the child, Léna wouldn’t testify—so securing Jason’s safety was the top priority.
Once the boy was safely rescued, Léna would give any testimony Carson needed. But if he played that card now, the Empress would abandon Count Graeham without the slightest hesitation.

“Noah.”
“Yes, my lord.”
“Spread a rumor that Léna Marière set fire to her room and took her own life. Don’t issue any official statement.”
“Understood.”
“Tell the security corps we can’t hand over the body right away. Say we need to investigate internally first to confirm whether it was suicide.”
“Yes.”
“And find a suitable female corpse—one burned beyond recognition.”
Thus, this wasn’t the right time yet.
Carson recalled the Empress’s unnaturally youthful face. Every time he saw her, a dreadful feeling gripped him. Though beautiful, her cunning was serpent-like and sent chills down his spine.
She had promised to return his younger sibling to him—only to attack both him and his sibling in the square. What would have become of him if he’d lost Louie?
That child was the sole reason Carson had to keep living—the one duty and responsibility left to him, entirely separate from his overflowing love for Loujiann.
At the end of that thought, she inevitably came to mind again.
In that moment when everyone screamed and chaos erupted like a battlefield, raising clouds of dust—she had walked calmly toward him, cradling his sibling as if nothing had happened.
Limping, limping. Her unsteady gait kept pounding into his heart like a steady drumbeat. Even though he knew she could walk properly now, his throat kept tightening strangely.
She wasn’t pitiful at all—yet he kept turning back to look at her.
He hadn’t shed a tear even on the day his mother died. In all his life, he’d never once let anyone see him cry—that much he was certain of.
But in a moment like this, if he simply let go… might he actually shed tears?
Carson gave a faint, bitter smile and shook the thought away.
Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away
This is also on my reread list!
This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.
Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.
But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.
Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.
I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.
The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.
As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.
