“And he tried to pin that crime on me. Of course, since it didn’t happen, I have no evidence. I found out by chance. If it had, I would have had to go to Romfield for murder.”
“Is that really true?”
“That’s not all. His final goal was to politically instigate and usurp your baronet title.”
“If that’s the case, you should’ve told this father earlier.”
If Ines had only needed to prevent that issue, she would have told her father. But that wasn’t the end for Ines. Her last aim was to punish them for consuming even her soul. How could she speak of this?
“The Lord has helped me a lot. Please express my thanks on my behalf.”
Her face seemed momentarily sad as she spoke of Carson.
“It’s hard to manage the gold mine, so please entrust it to the Lord. He will soon start a railway business, so invest as much as you want. It’s better if you just give it.”
Ines smiled brightly at her father as if her previous sorrow was fake. Her father sat dumbfounded, unable to reply.
“Is it difficult to believe everything I said?”
“No, not at all. This father believes all your words.”
“Father, thank you. I’m really sorry, but I don’t regret it. I mean it.”
“But how can you, how can you endure such a place.”
At those words, Ines laughed as if it were really funny.
“Don’t worry about it. I’ve always wanted to live in a temple. As you know, I’m a devout believer.”
“Still, how can that be…”
“Don’t worry about losing the noble status. Living like a human is enough. I believe so.”
“Ines.”
Hearing her father call her name, she grabbed his hand. The warmth made her smile naturally. Then she finally felt that everything was over.
“Someone tried to harm us, but they didn’t succeed, and here we are, sitting face to face.”
Unable to say anything while looking at his daughter, who seemed even happy at a glance, Andrew was utterly confused. He could not accurately grasp the emotions his daughter was feeling.
“Then I’ve won.”
However, at the last moment, Andrew understood. The sparkling smile his daughter showed was that of a perfect victor.
Three days later in the evening, Ines had to welcome another visitor.
But this time it wasn’t a visit. She was taken by carriage to the residence where the Chief Justice stayed to meet the waiting visitor.
And there, she encountered the man she had not longed to see. Perhaps someone she thought she might never see again.
Upon seeing Ines, Carson briefly looked at her and then passed by without a word.
It was unclear whether he was angry or sad. All she could do was silently follow him.
They were soon led into the reception room, where they met the Chief Justice.
“My lord, how have you come here directly without calling for me?”
“Since it’s a trivial meeting, it’s proper for me to come.”
At the words ‘trivial meeting,’ Ines’s head tilted slightly. What could be the reason to involve her in their trivial meeting? The Chief Justice immediately ordered a maid to bring tea and guided him to a seat.
“Please sit.”
Ines quietly took her seat next to Carson. She then realized her attire was far from presentable. As she was adjusting her clothes, the voice of the Chief Justice continued.
“So, what is the reason for today’s meeting?”
To his question, Carson gave no answer and merely stared at him. Then he tapped the armrest of the chair with his fingernail. The rhythmic noise spreading in the quiet reception room made the listener anxious.
“You really are… impatient.”
His voice was sharp. Ines’s breath momentarily stopped, realizing only then that he was quite angry.
It wasn’t only Ines who felt this; the Chief Justice adjusted his posture.
“Asking for the purpose before even the tea has arrived is no different than asking a vulgar merchant what they’ve come to sell.”
Upon hearing the intimidating words, the Chief Justice rose from his seat and bowed deeply to him. As Ines tried to stand to follow the Chief Justice, Carson reached out and grabbed her hand.
“Stay still.”
“I’ve been rude. If I’ve made you uncomfortable, please forgive me.”
Despite the Chief Justice’s formal apology, Carson did not invite him to sit back down.
An Indifferent Woman is the One Men Desire the Most
One-line summary: The female lead is actually cold-hearted and extremely rational. She has stage-by-stage relationships and won’t two-time, but there will always be someone who secretly likes her.
This novel has the following triggers, so if you’re sensitive to these, please don’t read:
1. The female lead has had many relationships, but she treated each one seriously and broke up properly.
It’s just that the men unilaterally pestered her incessantly. For the female lead, when she doesn’t like someone anymore, she simply doesn’t like them.
(This applies to her relationships with Male Lead 1, 2, 3, and 4 as well, but she’s loyal in each 1-on-1 relationship!)
2. In this novel, Male Lead 2 and the female lead kiss in a car, and Male Lead 1 sees it and beats up Male Lead 2.
The female lead calls the police and sends both Male Lead 1 and 2 to the police station! Male Lead 1 begs the female lead not to break up with him.
3. Male Lead 1 has a gentle appearance but an obsessive personality.
Male Lead 2 has a delicate and soft appearance, slightly green tea-like (two-faced).
Male Lead 3 is a youthful college student and a smart person who has secretly liked the female lead for a long time.
Male Lead 4 is the female lead’s father’s special assistant, a business elite with deep, hidden thoughts.
4. At the beginning of this novel, the female lead has already broken up with Male Lead 1 (Chapter 4) and gotten back together with Male Lead 2 (ex-boyfriend).
5. Enter with caution if you have triggers!!!
