“Speak.”

“I am on my way back from an audience with the Empress.”

“And?”

“The lord of Ruesonia will soon be executed. The Empress has granted me permission to annex Ruesonia to Landhill.”

The Emperor took a sip of his drink and laughed. He continued to watch the course of events, eyeing where the chalice of victory would end up. But Ruesonia…

“Ah, the Empress has always wanted to give you a big gift.”

“Usually, issues regarding territorial boundaries are cautiously considered over time. However, this is a territory without a lord, is it not?”

“So… expedite the process?”

“Yes.”

“How fast?”

“One month should suffice.”

The Emperor frowned. Even a few months would be insufficient. Although the Empress had granted permission, it was obvious what those repugnant, greedy nobles from the Empress’s faction would do.

As the Emperor’s expression darkened, Carson straightened his posture.

The Emperor was indifferent but not an unkind father. If hesitating due to political reasons, he considered appealing to any potential ethical concerns.

“Moreover, I have urgent matters that require me to visit my domain immediately.”

“Urgent matters?”

Carson paused for a moment, locking eyes with his father.

“I need to get married. Please approve it.”

“Ha ha ha ha.”

For the first time in a long time, the hearty laughter of the Emperor echoed beyond his bedroom door. Who could the woman be, for whom this accomplished son felt the need to marry himself?

“Which family’s daughter is she?”

“She’s from a noble family in Landhill. You probably haven’t heard of them.”

“A Count’s family?”

“A Baron’s family.”

If not harboring grand ambitions, a baron’s family wasn’t a bad choice. Moreover, his son was not one to borrow the power of a woman’s family. So, the only question was one.

“Is she pretty?”

A question he hadn’t expected made emotion surface on Carson’s face for the first time.

“Pardon?”

“I asked, is she very pretty?”

“Yes… she is.”

“Well then, let’s proceed. Why would a father not expedite matters when his son says he needs to get married?”

“Is it really possible?”

The Emperor was convinced that Carson found him disappointing.

Being powerless, even as an Emperor, wasn’t different from an Emperor who crushes his son beneath his feet.

“Though I am a weak Emperor, criticized morning and evening, I still have the strength to wield my seal.”

Carson stood and bowed to the Emperor.

“I apologize. And I thank you, Your Majesty.”

The Emperor, waving his hand, motioned for his son to sit.

“A 21-year-old man ought to be in a hurry for a woman. It’s natural. I’ll put Ruesonia into your hands as soon as I can. Give it as a gift to your future wife.”

Carson responded by nodding once more.

“I’ll also approve your marriage within it. Don’t worry.”

Carson looked at the shimmering glass of alcohol in front of him. It was the first time he sat alone in a room with the Emperor, and also the first time drinking the alcohol poured by him.

“But it’s unexpected. I thought you had no interest in women… How did you meet her?”

At that question, Carson naturally recalled their first meeting.

He decided not to tell his father that she was the one who saved Lucianne’s life. He thought it might get to the Empress, who has ears everywhere.

“I met her at my welcome party.”

Upon hearing his son’s words, the Emperor laughed softly, like an ordinary father.

“A rather dull meeting, but the most natural one. So, you were in Landhill at the time.”
In Carson’s memory, his father was always in uniform. The emperor, sitting in his pajamas with his normally neat hair disheveled, looked much older than he knew.

Carson was already a lord of a territory. As he clinked glasses with his father, man to man, he felt he could understand his father’s life.

What could he have done if he hadn’t loved women when he had no power at all? Perhaps the only freedom granted to him was just that.

Yet he should have refrained. If he couldn’t take responsibility for the women he loved, and the children he had with them, he should have never gone down that path.

Lifting his glass, Carson emptied it in one go. He swallowed down his desire to understand his father just like the liquor.

And he saw the emperor only as a target to achieve his goals.

“Your Majesty, I have one more request.”

“So, the work keeps piling up, and now you’re adding more.”

“…”

“What is it that you hesitate to say?”

As the emperor said, Carson chose his words carefully. The issue he was about to raise was known to no one in the palace.

“I understand there’s an important meeting soon concerning railway jurisdiction between the capital and Lusonia.”

The emperor paused for a moment at the mention of railway jurisdiction. Soon, the sound of a glass being set down on the table was heard.

“Yes, that’s correct.”

“I would like that meeting to be postponed.”

For a moment, the emperor stared intently into his son’s face. Those inscrutable eyes were focused on him.

“Carson, my son, are you planning to use this to rise to the top in the capital?”

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
