Seeing Ines’s expression, Andrew spoke gently.
“It’s all thanks to the Lord. It’s thanks to him that this land has been preserved like this.”
“…….”
“Of course, your story played a significant part in gaining people’s sympathy. But the fact that the Lord personally granted you exoneration privileges had the most significant impact.”
Thanks to the Lord’s swift judgment, the people in this area were safe from the epidemic. While outside was overflowing with hungry people, this place was more prosperous than ever.
Not only did the owner of this territory directly grant her forgiveness, but rumors also spread that she personally met with a judge, mitigating her disposal.
Ines closed her eyes tightly at Carson’s words. The long-suppressed longing surged within her.
If he forgives your sins, then no one else can accuse you of any wrongdoing….
A verse from the Bible, which had been set aside for a while, came to her mind. Soon after, her father’s gentle voice followed.
“Of course, there may be those who disdain our family. But no one openly disrespects or mocks us. Your father thinks he has received great grace just from that.”
Ines nodded her head. At this point, there was nothing else she could do.
“So, I mean… Of course, it’s not something to discuss right now, but it seems like your father is in a hurry.”
When Andrew hesitated to continue, Elena took over.
“Ines, after hearing the news that you’re returning to the family, some families have initiated marriage talks.”
“Marriage talks?”
Ines let out a wry smile. Not being hostile in Swenden and marriage were entirely different issues.
“It seems those families don’t find me repulsive.”
Elena couldn’t respond and just closed her mouth. Perhaps the tremendous gold mine owned by the Swenden family offset their repulsiveness. More sarcastic thoughts crossed Ines’s mind, but she smiled gently.
“I understand. I’ll think about it. But, Father, Mother, I came today. We can discuss that matter later.”
“Yeah, I was too impatient, and I ended up rushing you.”
She stood up, tilting her head. Of course, she understood her parents’ feelings. At the age of 23, it was an age when a person, regardless of gender, should have at least one child.
“More than that, Father, I’d like to hear how my request is going.”
Andrew, with a bewildered expression, stood up to follow Ines.
Ines knew her parents’ hearts well. They hoped that even if Carson sacrificed his life for them, they wouldn’t want their daughter to be entangled with such a great person. Now, she wished for her daughter to return to her original ordinary life.
But Ines had decided to live the rest of her life for him. So, what kind of person she would become in the future depended entirely on Carson.
The two soon sat face to face in Andrew’s office.
Due to her stay at the temple, Ines hadn’t properly heard about the state affairs. It was truly a frustrating time.
“How are things going back there now?”
“There was a tremendous incident.”
Ines felt a great tension from her father’s powerful words and expression.
“The Emperor has suddenly declared that Prince Carson will be seated as the Crown Prince during the enthronement ceremony.”
“That… What are you saying?”
“It’s exactly as you heard. Prince Carson will now become the Crown Prince.”
Ines closed her eyes in disbelief and remained silent for a moment.
“He… Is he safe?”
“As long as the Emperor and the temple protect him, he should be safe now. But your father can’t understand this at all. Why did His Majesty suddenly make such a decision?”
The Emperor had lost many children in a short period. In such a situation, if the Queen’s son returned to the position of the Crown Prince, the bloodshed of the system would never end.
It wasn’t a time for everyone to silently observe. Especially, Landhill was sure to be the Queen’s first target. Therefore, as the Emperor, there was no room for choice.
The Emperor had begun his final gamble, even risking his own life.
“Then, there must have been movement from Count Grandel’s side.”
Ines stood up, nervously biting her nails.
“Yes, just four days ago, Count Grandel demanded a tremendous amount of military supplies.”
“How much?”
Andrew soon handed her thick documents. Examining them closely, Ines easily understood that the Empress was preparing for a major war.
“How much grain have you stored?”
Ines had instructed Andrew to purchase not only military supplies but also the most used grain for making bread for the imperial citizens.
The amount her father mentioned could control the fluctuating prices of grain in the system for a while.
“But now, we can’t buy any more. It’s difficult to properly store the existing grain. Some of it has already rotted away.”
Ines carefully examined the documents her father presented, speaking slowly.
“I understand. This should be enough.”
Andrew let out a long sigh. Some relief and mostly regret filled his heart. Ines was an ignorant child of the world. When did she change so much?
“What should we do now?”
My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband
This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.
The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.
They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.
In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.
When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.
She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.
Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!
Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.
Notes:
1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.
