Allen finally stopped crying only after his eyes had swollen up badly.

Then he spotted a cream-colored box tucked away pitifully in a corner of the tree. Fortunately, the pancake inside had barely managed to retain its shape.

With an even more pouty expression due to his puffy face, Allen held out the box to Nigel.

“This… I bought this for you. You said you wanted to try the original Nigel Elipherum pancake, right? So Noah and I worked hard to track it down.”

Nigel slowly picked up the box. It was truly baffling why such a small box felt so unbearably heavy.

“I… I may not be good at cooking like Charlotte, so I can’t make desserts myself—but since I’ve got more than enough money, I can buy as many treats like this as you want. So… so Nigel… let’s finally make up already, you and me and Noah.”

Allen pulled Noah’s hand and extended both their hands toward Nigel, tears welling up in his eyes once again.

Nigel desperately wanted to grab those hands right then and there—but there was still something he needed to ask.

“Why… why exactly do you two want to be friends with me?”

“Huh…?”

“Nigel…?”

Nigel’s genuinely bewildered tone made Allen and Noah’s eyes widen.

“I’m not naturally kind like Noah—I ignore people whenever I don’t like them and act however I please. Plus, I’m stubbornly proud, so I never bowed my head to you or even spoke a word to you. And unlike you, Allen, I don’t know how to have fun—I just study all the time and have nothing interesting about me. So… why on earth are you so determined to befriend me?”

Not to mention, whenever I get involved with others, I end up hurting them. Nigel silently repeated the words he couldn’t bring himself to say aloud.

At that moment, Allen let out a hollow laugh.
