I cut off his overly dramatic speech mid-sentence, subtly taunting his limited vocabulary—someone who could only compliment women on their appearance and never came up with anything more original than the most clichéd metaphor.

Leonard’s smiling face stiffened awkwardly. Still, as a noble, he seemed aware that I was teasing him. Seeing him like this, I laughed aloud and said playfully,

“You always say I look ‘like a rose’ whenever I wear a red dress. I figured you’d say the same thing again today, so I just said it for you.”
